Why does Firefox 4 hog 50% or more of system resources?
Firefox 4 is slow and has serious memory leak issues. I have seen this question elsewhere but often in reference to plugincontainer.exe for Windows or earlier versions (3.5 and onwards).
On a Mac, running OS X.6.6 and FF4, system resources for Firefox reach 50% or more when running a single-tab *without* Flash content. Numerous extensions are loaded.
Running FF 3.6 (last release) with the same extensions and plugins, system resources are 10% or less.
Safari 5.0.3 with similar extensions runs at 6% system resources or less.
FF4 is currently all-but unusable in most situations. Streaming video / Flash content overheats the CPU (my fan kicks in). System is 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
To top it off FF4 often fails to close upon quit and requires a force quit.
