i personally believe searching the internet and going to a web site, based on what is typed into the URL bar is a huge security flaw. The URL / Address bar is for typing addresses in, the search bar is for typing searches in. While doing remote support for clients, the number of times you direct them to type in an address in the address bar and they end up in the wrong place (or with lists of domains that are just as likely to be virused / malware) rather than going to where you want them to go is problematic. I am just as likely to have them download remote support / apps from a malware site as the proper ones because the address bar doesn't tell them they have mistyped an address but sends them to who knows where. It is also a bad look for mozilla when a mistyped url ends up at huge domains - a site trying to sell stuff - rather than telling you that the url is wrong. Is Mozilla selling advertising or taking revenue off them ? It feels like it. Why else would a local address like localhost end up at huge domains? No link between the item typed and the domain selling me stuff. By running searches Mozilla often does miss local domains on a lan - another security issue. There are settings to remove the ability to search from the address bar but Mozilla keep changing the name of the configuration item that does this. This means web browsers configured for safety now are unsafe again. Mozilla - you need to sort this for once and for all. Running auto updates that undo specific configurations and especially security configurations is BAD PRACTICE!! Better yet - Let the address bar be an ADDRESS bar and a search bar be a SEARCH bar. Just coz chrome made huge security mistakes doing this doesn't mean Mozilla should do it too.
