When I click on help, and a menu appears, the Inserting Media link does not address the problem. How do I get "Add Media" back?

Hi theelephantschild3, is this on a WordPress blog? Have you updated Firefox since the last time it worked or did this come on out of the blue?

General suggestions:

When you have a problem with one particular site that previously worked normally, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

See: How to clear the Firefox cache

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes. If you do not see the number going down on the page, you can reload it using Ctrl+r to check progress.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:

  • right-click (on Mac Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • click the padlock or "i" icon in the address bar, then the ">" button, then More Information, and finally the "View Cookies" button

In the dialog that opens, the current site should be pre-filled in the search box at the top of the dialog so you can remove that site's cookies individually.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

If that doesn't help, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? In Safe Mode, Firefox temporarily deactivates extensions, hardware acceleration, and some other advanced features to help you assess whether these are causing the problem.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any improvement?

I'm not sure I understand this comment:

Clicked on "refresh Firefox" and my blog disappeared. What do I do now?

When you use the Refresh feature, some of your local settings go back to their defaults. However, your blog over on WordPress should remains unchanged.

If the problem is that you no longer see a bookmark for your blog, you may need to redisplay the Bookmarks Toolbar:

To turn different bars on and off, you can use one of these methods to show the toolbar list and select the desired bars there:

To turn on the Bookmarks Toolbar, Menu Bar, or other bars, click it on the list.

In another new question you wrote:

Button on that website said "Refresh Firefox" Punched that and my blog and Firefox disappeared from my computer and I am now contacting you on Edge.

Does Firefox start if you try it this way:

Call up the Windows "Run" dialog by holding down the Windows key on the keyboard and tapping the R key.

Then in that dialog, type or paste firefox.exe and press Enter to run it.

Do you get Firefox? If you get an error message, what is the error?

No, tried it several times to be sure I was following your instructions. Did not get Firefox, or anything.

I find that I can access Firefox through the aps listing on the new Windows opening page, but it is not a homepage, and I have no access to my own real site. Operating system is Windows 10, if that helps.

I am not familiar with the latest Windows 10 update, so I don't know whether that means the Firefox program is on your computer, or you are viewing the Firefox website in Edge. If you cannot start Firefox from the Run dialog or the Windows Start menu, you may need to reinstall it.

I have reinstalled Firefox and my blog is back, however the missing links (Add Media) and (Publish) are still missing., so I can't post anything at all. Will have to tackle it again tomorrow. Thanks for your help, even if it didn't work.

You might have mentioned in another thread, but did you try these general suggestions, and what results did you get:

After I reinstalled Firefox, thanks for pointing me in that direction, I went to Wordpress and I think those problems are fixed. Lots of other people there are having the same problem I did. Thanks very much for trying to help. I did try cleaning out the cookies and all, but it didn't help. I wish I spoke computer language better. But it's solved.
