Recently (in the past week or two), when I open Firefox a 2nd tab sometimes opens (1st being my homepage) showing some "clean Youtube" from MyBrowserAddon.com. I'm not comfortable with this, since it's happening with neither my permission nor my direction. I would in fact like to stop anything like this from ever happening. Is this happening to anyone else? Anyone know why it's happening? Is there a way to stop it for good within Firefox?

hello, this sounds like a problem possibly caused by adware on your pc.

  1. please go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc).
  2. also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there.
  3. finally, run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner, which are specialised in adware and browser hijackers.

Thanks for your quick response. I checked my add-ons and, sure enough, an enabled "AdBlock for Youtube (TM)" was the culprit. Disabled and removed. Still not sure why it was opening a tab, but hopefully this will solve the issue.

I have Kaspersky, so ran a full scan the other day, and additionally checked for rootkits just after posting my question. Nothing's been found, so I think it was all due to the above-mentioned add-on.

Thanks again!

EDIT: will update on solution after I see if it happens again or not.
