"The current operation on 'inbox' did not succeed" error occurs with Outlook.com inbox (imap) that has previously been working well - the error is erratic..

I recently closed my Yahoo email account and replaced it with an Outlook.com email account which I added to Thunderbird. All has been working well until the last couple of days when I have been getting the "The current operation on 'inbox' did not succeed ......" error. The error does not occur on every occasion when I open Thunderbird which puzzles me. The Outlook.com account is the only IMAP account I have on Thunderbird, all my other accounts use POP3. I know similar problems have been reported before but they are not quite the same and suggested solutions for them do not resolve my problem.

My main system is a Windows 7 SP1 desktop but I also use a Linux Mint 13 'Mate' live usb memory stick (with persistence) on an older XP desktop and the problem occurs on both.

I just don't know if the problem is with Outlook.com (although there is no problem with their webmail) or with Thunderbird.

Any suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Chosen solution

Update: The Outlook.com account has been behaving correctly within Thunderbird now for over 24 hours so I guess that maybe Microsoft had been carry out maintenance activity. Clearly this was not a problem with Thunderbird so we can say the issue is resolved.

My guess on these is always third party applications, but a common one across multiple O/Ses is not all that likely.

Have a look at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Thunderbird:Testing:Memory_Usage_Problems#Diagnosis_Steps

In particular item 6.

Thanks Matt,

With the erratic nature of my problem, and as you noted, it is occurring over three operating systems, it would seem to be an Outlook problem rather than one with Thunderbird. Today, on my first look in Thunderbird, everything was normal including the Outlook.com account.

Thanks for the link too. There's a lot to go through there so I'll bookmark it for future reference. For the time being though, I think I'll wait and see how things develop.

Cheers and best regards.
