ff suddenly without bookmarks and plugins
Well, after a windows update last night my ff shortcut in the taskbar was removed and when opening ff through the program folder all my plugins and bookmarks was lost. All in the course of two hours. it doesn't seem to be a windows problem (been talking to MS support).Upgraded to ff 12 a month ago so that doesn't seem to be the problem. And an upgrade shouldn't cause that kind of problem anyways. I have scanned my computer thouroghly with 4 different antivirus and antimalware programs and are completely clean. Don't want to reset my computer to the state that it was 1 year ago. Any thoughts?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
You should read this article from our Knowledge Base. It contains a fix for the issue. This article has more information on the issue as well if you are interested.
You can also try to repair the places database with this extension:
Since it affects your plugins too, it could be that it's an issue with your Profile. You might want to read Manually back up and restore Firefox profile data to see if you profile has gone missing or is in the wrong location.

Hi Matt! Thanks for your help. It seems that I was a llittle bit confused earlier. I had FF 11 installed previously and it looks like that it upgraded itself to version 12 when win 7 automatically updated.yesterday. I copied my profiles folder and rolled back to FF 11 and pasted the content into the new profile. Works like a charm! Reading up on the moz support site, it looks like FF 12 is a little bit buggy still. Anyway, thanks again for your help.

With the new profile, try updating to Firefox 12 again (maybe make a backup first). Firefox 12 has security updates that 11 doesn't have, so not updating is a security risk. You should be able to update no problem, so go ahead and try again :)
I will do that in a couple of days. At least now I know that I can roll back if I need to. Next project is to install XP again as a secondary OP SYS. I've got a rather old computer and no drivers to support my TV card and touchpad. Hopefully I will be able to do this without formatting my harddrive.The best way will probably be to buy a new laptop and have a nice new Win 7 machine and this old piece of crap as a bedroom entertainment equipment.Very nice of you to reply!
