I have several (4) computers with Firefox 27 and a download button that does nothing when I click it. It show a drop down balloon that shows recent downloads/current downloads or "Show All Downloads"

When I download/save a file I can see the button graphic change and the file downloads but still clicking the button doesn't do anything. it doesn't drop down the downloads like it should.

I have tried re-install and resetting and deleting localstore.

These are all windows 7 machines running on accounts with only user privledges, not admin.

Above I meant to say: "It SHOULD show a drop down balloon that shows recent downloads/current downloads or "Show All Downloads" but DOES NOT"

So, you don't see this?
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/find-and-manage-downloaded-files#w_how-do-i-access-my-downloads
And Show All Downloads doesn't show either?

If you don't see that, try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings and disables most add-ons (extensions and themes).

(If you're using an added theme, switch to the Default theme.)

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu by clicking on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item:
FirefoxSafeMode

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode" Safe Mode Fx 15 - Win

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

Right I don't see "that" and in safe mode it doesn't work either, should've mentioned that above. Also turning on or off hardware acceleration on any of the computers doesn't fix it either.

Does the about:downloads page work?

You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

"about:dowloads" and "CTRL+J" both work.

Deleteing and rebuilding places.sqlite does not fix the problem.

Try to create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

Okay no that did not help, see the video below, I do what you say but no fix.

BUT, I did notice something bizarre that I have not noticed before, it appears the windows is there just not visible, watch my cursor and you see it change as I hover over where the downloads would be, I then click and it DOES bring up the download, I just can't see the balloon window that "the-edmeister" links to in his post above.

That would suggest an issue with hardware acceleration that would work when Firefox is started in Safe Mode.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox (you need to close and restart Firefox).

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Thanks, from a couple Responses back:

"Right I don't see 'that' and in safe mode it doesn't work either, should've mentioned that above. Also turning on or off hardware acceleration on any of the computers doesn't fix it either. "

Hardware acceleration off and restart in safe mode does not fix. Also remember this is on multiple computers.
