I just downloaded Firefox and uninstalled Microsoft edge and now new tabs are completely black except the top bar and I can search anything in the top bar. I’m afraid something broke when Microsoft Edge was removed.

You can't remove Edge by default it's integrated with the O/S and removing most likely caused unknown issue. How did you go about removing Edge that by default you can't remove.
