As from today my computer has developed a strange problem. Let's say I run Firefox on it's own... In the taskbar Ffox has a blank icon. If I then run notepad for example, notepad appears with it's normal icon and the Firefox icon in the taskbar, which was previously blank, takes on the notepad icon.

If I then click the running Firefox or notepad on the taskbar the icon turns back into Ffox, however the notepad icon also turns into Ffox! If I then close notepad the Ffox icon turns blank again. It's bizarre, I've run a few scans for viruses etc but nothing.

In summary: Firefox has a blank icon in the taskbar, it then temporarily takes on the icon of whatever I run next, if I then click on either the Ffox or other running program in the taskbar both icons turn to Firefox icons.

I'm hoping a reboot will fix this anomaly, in the meantime be interesting to know what's causing this.

Chosen solution

I think it was, a reboot fixed it. Would still be interested to know what happened there though.

Sounds more like a O/S issue. Did you restart your computer to see what happens?

Sometimes this is a O/S problem and sometimes not. And best to always err on restart to insure this isn't something the O/S needs because it updated.

I'd recently installed some printer software although the problem didn't happen immediately after doing that. Due to the specific order of events it seemed to me more like a malicious script, however a virus scan found nothing.
