Sorry you are having problems with Firefox.

It is likely that the problem is due to security software that in not set up correctly to work with Firefox. If so your work IT department should be able to fix that (or you may be able to fix it yourself depending on who set things up on the computer, you or the IT people ? )

You may of course override the warning and set up individual exceptions easily yourself.

if the problem is caused because security software that is fiddling with & replacing Certificates and Firefox is detecting that, then until you set up the security software correctly you will not be able to entirely prevent this.

Of course there is a possibility that your browsing is genuinely being intercepted by some bad actor.

Sorry but that doesn't fix the problem as the "add exception" is not available. They are running Windows Xp could that be the problem? But still shouldn't I have the option to disable it completely? I can't even get on sites like Walmart.ca.

Besides the Antivirus clients causing this headache with the certificates a proxy can be the cause. A long time simple reason can be due to the OS date/time being incorrect.

Check out why the site is untrusted and click the "Advanced" button to expand this section to see extra details. If the certificate is not trusted because no issuer chain was provided (sec_error_unknown_issuer) then see if you can install this intermediate certificate from another source. Click the "Add Exception" button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer.

If you can't inspect the certificate via "Add Exception" then try this:

Open the "Add Security Exception" window by pasting this chrome URL in the Firefox location/address bar and check the certificate:

  • chrome://pippki/content/exceptionDialog.xul

In the location field of this window type or paste the URL of the website with the https:// protocol prefix (https://xxx.xxx).

  • retrieve the certificate via the "Get certificate" button
  • click the "View..." button to inspect the certificate in the Certificate Viewer

You can inspect details like the issuer and the certificate chain in the Details tab of the Certificate Viewer. Check who is the issuer of the certificate. If necessary then please attach a screenshot that shows the Certificate Viewer with the issuer.

I'll try all that and get back to you, I should mention it is with all sites not just one site. I'll include screens if I can.
