How to recover lost Bookmarks, Passwords?

more options

Hi there, I'm in serious trouble as I can't restore my bookmarks and saved passwords after reinstalling the browser. After spending a good amount of time on the support forum, I realized that it's got something to do with resetting the password. Unfortunately, I wasn't presented with any warning screen before changing the password. But, now I'm sure that I'm not gonna sleep/eat over this mishap :'(. Although, firefox isn't responsible for this act, I am just hoping that someone out there has time and skills to help me get the data back. Please be informed that it's almost 5-6 years of valuable data (Bookmarks, Passwords) :-/. So, I kinldy request you to HELP ME in this regard.

Thanks, Kris

Hi, you can try this for bookmarks: Open bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import and Backup > Restore, and see if you have a backup there.

If not, and for other data, please see -

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

Note that requesting a new password for your Sync account because you forgot it or changing the password for the Sync account will wipe all data stored on the Sync server and you won't be able to retrieve data that was stored previously. Best is always to backup your personal data locally to be sure to be able to recover from issues.

Do you have an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop in case you used the Refresh feature.

If there are no backups of your personal data available then I'm afraid that your bookmarks and passwords are lost.

Thanks for your responses, folks. But, I'm terribly troubled as it's a fresh OS installation, and I entirely trusted Firefox for my synced data. I used to save a copy of Bookmarks/Passwords everytime before, but this time I relied on Firefox to do that and I'm in the middle of nowhere now. Could you please suggest me a way to reach someone sitting at the servers. Thanks, Kris

These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.

These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) {web link} FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your saved files individually into installable .xpi files. It will also make backups of files that you choose.

That wouldn't do you any good. The Firefox Account Password is used to create the encryption key; a different key wouldn't decrypt the data.

When you reset your Sync Password, your data is automatically wiped from the Sync server - it is gone. There is no point is saving that data when the Account Password is changed, as that data was rendered useless when the that Password was changed.
