Newsblur Causes Firefox 44.0 to Freeze

I've used Firefox forever and have always had five or six tabs pinned such as mail, news and my reader tab. I use Newsblur and noticed with this last Firefox update, Newsblur causes the browser to hang for up to five minutes, freezing so the only way to close the browser is through the task manager. I'm running Windows 10 on a Toshiba laptop. I unfortunately do not have this problem at all in Chrome, but I don't want to use that as my default browser. Can someone help?

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

  • Clear the Cache and
  • Remove Cookies
    Warning ! ! This will log you out of sites you're logged in to.

Type about:preferences<Enter> in the address bar.

  • Cookies; Select Privacy. Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. Press the button on the right side called Show Cookies. Use the search bar to look for the site. Note; There may be more than one entry. Remove All of them.
  • Cache; Select Advanced > Network. Across from Cached Web Content, Press Clear Now.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

Then restart.

I did a reset last night after trying all of that and that's how I found that it is the Newsblur site that is causing all the problems. As I loaded each page, when I went to Newsblur, everything froze. I've opened just that site in another browser and have had no problems at all with Firefox which leads me to believe that something in the coding on the Newsblur site is causing the problems in Firefox. Not sure what unless some script is rampant. The problem is, I'm not good enough to find the script and NoScript didn't really help for just that site. It works wonders on all the others I visit. And I installed NoScript when the problem first started thinking that might be what was causing the freezes.

Microsoft pushed through an update on 1/30 and though Newsblur (I can only guess, I hadn't checked it at that point) caused some lagging problems prior to that, it almost completely shut down Firefox after the update. I uninstalled the update and rolled back the laptop, but it's made no difference now. :(

Thanks! I marked all of my feeds as read to clear things out and it still happens :(

I've also posted at the Newsblur help forum because I'm thinking it might be a combination of something they have going on that shouldn't and Firefox being unable to handle whatever it is, but I don't know. Like I mentioned, it's only happening in Firefox. No other browser is having this issue. :(
