Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: 3-bar Menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

When you create a new tab in an existing window, Firefox usually shows a page that has a search bar and sites from your history (or if you have no history, suggested sites). There's more information in these articles:

Is that the page you meant, you want to change that to a different page?

If Firefox already is showing something else, it's possible that an add-on has somehow taken over the page. What do you see? Does it have an address on the web in the address bar?

Perhaps it would help to post a screen shot. This article has tips on creating the image: How do I create a screenshot of my problem? Please cut out or blur any sensitive information before attaching your image to a reply.

Thank you! I was so frustrated that I might have to uninstall and reinstall firefox! The refresh worked perfect! I believe it was an add on - I have never experienced this before with chrome, is this something i need to be vigil about, it happened so fast, I was on with this browser 1 day.
