Hi, what you are referring to sounds like the default zoom button - Font size and zoom - increase the size of web pages. If you don't want it on your toolbar, you can right click to remove it.

More about customizing the buttons - Customize Firefox controls, buttons and toolbars.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you.

thanks very much, all done.

now to the main problem. i have a brand new ff profile with all text the default size [not this profile] , i want to shrink the text a bit in this profile, ive matched all the font size in both profiles [in content, also in advanced settings] and it remains to big in this one

i refer mainly to the permanent bars at the top of FF but also sometimes the web page text

also, the whole page/screen appears stretched sideways and to view all of it i must scroll sideways

restarting FF in safe mode is no better

i dont want to use add ons to get the correct size text as its ok on the other profile using no add ons thanks

You may have zoomed web page(s) by accident. Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

  • View > Zoom > Reset (Ctrl/Command+0 (zero))

You can rename (or delete) the content-prefs.sqlite file (content-prefs.sqlite.old) in the Firefox profile folder to reset website specific data.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

If you have made changes to Advanced font size settings like increasing the minimum/default font size then try the Default font size setting "16" and the Minimum font size setting "none" in case the current setting is causing problems.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced > Minimum Font Size (none)

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but to use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with text not being displayed properly.

You can look at the Default FullZoom Level or NoSquint extension to set a default font size and page zoom on web pages.
