this error was also reported a few years ago, Reason Bitdefender blocked these. On my PC I do not have Bitdefender so this happends now:

When I first open Firefox many Tabs with "Install Add-on are open. The screen shows a message "Another program on your computer would like to modify Firefox with the following" On eash tab a different Add-om is referred to. How can I stop this happening? fyi I checked my firewall Norton Security (2015) but finds nothing what blocs them

any help is welcome

Hello, Thank you for your question. I understand that Firefox does not have add ons when you restart it and that there is this message: ""Another program on your computer would like to modify Firefox with the following"

I do not see that you have a user.js file so I do not think you are running into the above, you may be running into this from the antivirus.

Check your antivirus settings for Firefox.

You can check for problems with preferences.

Delete possible user.js and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in current Firefox releases.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the extensions.* files (e.g. extensions.json, extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled or not compatible extensions in "Firefox menu button/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left end of the Search bar to check if there is a compatibility update available.

If this hasn't helped then also delete the addons.json file.
