How do I get the address bar to work again? Each and every time firefox updates, there's a new problem.

When I type an address in the address bar and click or hit enter nothing happens. Bookmarks still seem to work. I don't want to delete the program and re-install as I don't want to lose bookmarks and things. I tried starting it in in safe mode but that didn't work. Any quick fix is appreciated.

Last update, the video downloader stopped working...next update, could not watch Youtube videos in HD. I corrected everything but I'm getting really tired of having to fix things after every firefox update. I'm on the verge of just switching browsers. When I turn on a lamp, I expect there to be light...I don't expect that every time I turn on a lamp I will have to replace the outlet, rewire switches or update the electrical wiring. A browser should not be this much of a problem. Thank you again.

We do now have fix that we know works for some people with this or a very similar problem.

We do also have developers looking at the issue. The following request is only applicable if you still have the problem. OR you had the problem and kept a copy of the places.sqlite from when the problem existed.

May I ask have you retained a copy of the file places.sqlite from a profile that did not work ? If so would you be willing to let Mozilla look at that file ?

WARNING There are privacy issues, in that the file contains your bookmarks information and browsing History. The file will only be used by Mozilla developers. It will not be displayed publicly.

If you are willing to provide a copy of this file, if required please contact by email Marco Bonardo

mak AT mozilla.com

I suggest you put in the subject line

places.sqlite; bug 11804i9; (/support.mozilla.org/questions/1070371)

and ask whether the file would be useful still. Thanks for your time and the information you have already provided.

Cheers,

John

THE FIX Updated 8th July The address bar not working problem, latest recomended fix, if places maintenance addon does not help is to rename the file places.sqlite. Further details see

An advanced solutions that may work, and with less data loss are documented in https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Tech/Places/places.sqlite_Database_Troubleshooting

At least as a workaround that gets Firefox running Create a new additional Firefox profile. See Profile Manager - Create, remove or switch Firefox profiles

We can give more information and help you get Firefox back to normal, but please, whether you want to try to help Mozilla or not, first of all back up the original profile.

Please post back in this thread to say how you get on and for further assistance.
