Firefox keeps blinking and stalling

I have used firefox for years. I like to keep a lot of tabs open so I don't have to search around.

Firefox keeps blinking and stalling as hour glass pause kicks in every 10-20 seconds. If trying to type it messes up your flow.

Don't know the cause. Suspect repeated ajax calls from some page but don't know which one.

Here's a jing video of the problem:

I see the whole window blanks out. What about the other windows? What about the screen itself? Was Firefox full screen or less?

If you have problems with current Shockwave Flash plugin versions then check this:

  • see if there are updates for your graphics drive drivers

https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration

  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)

https://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround

  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode;

Type about:preferences#advanced<Enter> in the address bar.

Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

"I see the whole window blanks out. What about the other windows? What about the screen itself? Was Firefox full screen or less?"

- the problem occurs whether FF is maximized or at a smaller size - the video was at a smaller size -it only occurs to the FF window and not any other window - sometimes I cannot get Firefox to be visible but not maximized. Sometimes I can. When I can't, hitting the middle window button just makes the window disappear --dont think that is related though but thought I'd mention it

"Under Advanced, Select General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration."

- I had already read that and checked it. I have not had Hardware Acceleration on and double checked it before posting.

I will try the safe mode and the flash updates and get back to you.

Yes, check flash. But also see if there are updates for your graphics drivers.

I did find an updated graphics driver. It does not seem to help but I will wait a couple of days and see if it kicks in.

I disabled WebGL and so far that has not helped.

When firefox freezes I see "Not Responding" in the title bar.

That is a message from the computer.

Starting Firefox in SAFE mode does not help at all.

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe web sites. Is the problem still there?
