Suddenly to use Passwords list on Firefox Windows is demanding I sign into Windows, where previously I used the special "master" password I use only on Firefox. I want to disable this intrusion.

I've just transitioned over from Google Chrome. There, any time I tried to access a saved password, it asked me for my fingerprint (I'm on a Mac). It "cached" my print for a five minute window, so if I access saved passwords during that window, I didn't have to do it again. But after five minutes, I had to do it again.

Although it's annoying, it's my preference because it's a business laptop that I travel with frequently.

Firefox doesn't seem to have the same feature? Some websites says it DOES have the five minute window, but I've tried every combination I can figure out in passwords and can't get that to happen. I tried the primary password, but that only asks for it when I start up Firefox. I want the five minute window.

I searched the forum and seem to be the only person in the world who wants this level of security?!?!

I am not concerned with anyone in my household gaining access to my passwords. If I somehow give a scammer remote access to my computer, does creating a primary password prevent that person from seeing any user names or passwords that I may have accidentally stored on my computer? I am concerned with third party scammers, not anyone physically gaining access to my laptop.

I desperately need your help. My brother died last weekend. And I need to access his Firefox. Is there any way to reset or remove the primary password? I really hope some can help me out.

Hi folks, my primary password suddenly stopped working when trying to look at saved passwords today. I've changed it to a new one, needing to type in the old password to do so. That worked, which verifies I had the correct password to begin with.

I then updated the browser to the latest version. When I type in the new password on startup of Firefox it works fine to reopen all the old tabs.

However when I go to look at any of the saved website passwords, the problem reoccurs again. I type in the new password but the box shakes, refusing it.

How can it be that the primary password lets me in fine when starting up Firefox, yet I get the shaking login box when I try to look at any saved website passwords? Surely if the primary password works for one it should work for the other?

I get the most generic error when trying to set up a backup password. This happens for any kind of password I try to input, including the same one used in my Mozilla account. This happens whether the password is simple or complex, regardless of length or characters.

Every time I open Firefox I get the prompt for my master password even though I'm not on a website. How do I get this to stop? It has begun to ask me twice and only does it once if I disable sync. How do I get it to stop unless I'm actually trying to sign in to something?

this request by mozilla keeps appearing. i dont have a PIN. its difficult to get around. takes about three or four times so I can access page i am requesting. In this case Paypal.

my mobile app seems to always have the p. w. & log. ins available where as my desktop will pop-up asks me to at least once "sign. in" .. I believe they are synced .. am concerned for a phone gran & aitomatically having P.W. access to my sites .. am I missing a setting?

When opening our browser this morning all of our bookmarks appear to be locked behind some kind of security, it is incredibly frustrating. We have an account recovery key, that we got when we tried to open some bookmarks, but we have no idea how to use it, we are already signed in.

We can access the bookmarks on our phone, so the disconnect is in the browser somewhere. Is there anything we can do to recover access? Do we need to use the recovery key? If so, how?

I recently added a primary password to FF. I wrote it down, but FF says I'm using the wrong one already. I can't turn it off and I can't change the password. I'm in a loop. How do I get out?

I used to access the passwords and addresses stored on Firefox by putting in my Primary Password. But now it keeps asking me for a PIN. I can't sign in to Firefox to get the PIN because Plusnet closed down our email account without telling us, so my old email address is no longer valid.. We now use Gmail. But I can't change my email address on Firefox as it wants to send the link to my old email address, which no longer exists.. I have a secondary email address on my account, but it goes to my phone, and I don't do emails on my phone. I tried to change it, but to do so, Mozilla want to send a link (or maybe a pass number) to my old primary email address, which no longer exists.

A popup box appears on screen when I try to turn on Firefox browser. I have never had to use a password before this box appeared. Funny thing is that when I click cancel the box disappears and Firefox comes to life. After searching I have found no way to remove this box and it is unnecessary. Would appreciate directions as how to remove this box.

After version 149, I find I am asked to provide the Windows password in order to modify or copy saved passwords (but not fill when visiting a site). I had already set a primary password to secure my saved passwords, so this never should have happened. Turning off this setting also prompts for the Windows password. In v151, I recommend that Firefox allow the primary password to be used instead, for both managing passwords and turning off the "require device sign in" setting.

I can understand trying to force password security and encryption upon users who do not have a primary password set, but that should have been accomplished by prompting the user to set a primary password. Users with primary passwords should have been excepted from the change. "Require device sign in" should never have been an option - local system passwords are not designed for this use, and no consumer-grade app should have access to them.

As a CISSP I never recommend that anyone use browser-based password managers at all, but I do use the Firefox one for some non-critical sites. This discovery has been an annoyance, but worse, it reveals a poor understanding of security on the part of Mozilla.
