Am on win10 -- FF 118.0.2

A strange thing has just occurred in the past two days -- Firefox will no longer drag and drop URLs to form a shortcut on the desktop; I get only the international "can't do that" symbol, the circle with a slash, as I drag.

When I make a shortcut within firefox, then copy it and paste to the desktop, instead of the FF icon, I get the blank sheet, but when I look at the file with Notebook, it shows all the expected content:

Same deal with shortcuts that once did work; they are now inactive. However, when dragged onto FF or Chrome, they magically link up as they ought to.

I've googled for answers, but found nothing worthwhile. One suggestion was to shift the default browser to something else. I chose Google Chrome. Did no good. The shortcuts remained inactive. I could drag and drop from Chrome to the desktop but the shortcuts were still of a white sheet and inactive.

So, I'm suspecting something in Windows needs to be reset, but what? Can't find anything about where and how url shortcuts are treated in the registry. It's an annoyance. Any help greatly appreciated.

I use a theme which some years ago (after a change in the way Firefox handles dark-mode preferences) changed all UI and websites to use dark-mode. I was able to keep using the theme, and mostly override this behavior by setting:

`layout.css.prefers-color-scheme.content-override = 1`

However, this didn't take for some components, such as the sidebar and bookmark editor window, which still continue to use dark-mode.

Is there any way to completely disable dark-mode everywhere, and still use my preferred theme?

Is it possible to spell check the entire web page using both Hunspell built-in dictionaries and user-defined dictionaries *.dic, already prepared text in Firefox. As it is done in text editors like Libre Office (also uses Hunspell) but for web site, checking the text from top to bottom with errors in a separate window, so spell check is not only in the text input/search field.

Hi, Hopefully someone can help. This started a couple of days ago. I'm actually trying to log in to my own account on Flickr. If I just input Flickr.com, the main front page loads, if I then go to log in, I get: "429 Too Many Requests You have sent too many requests in a given amount of time" on the screen. I've only hit enter once. As far as I can see this is the only site that does this BUT Youtube sometimes plays up, so maybe something is happening in the back ground with that. Might be totally unconnected.

I've tried using Opera (my main back up) and that loads my account just fine. I've tried turning off the extensions Adblock, No Script etc and the 429 error still pops up everytime I go to log in..

Any ideas? Anyone?

Am I understanding this correctly?

HTML backup (bookmarks) doesn't support tags and annotations, but JSON backup does, and JSON backup doesn't preserve the website favicons, but HTML backup does?  

So, what I can do, is restore my (saved) bookmarks using JSON backup, then restore the HTML backup, this would get my tags and annotations, and the website favicons back? But the downside, I will need to remove duplicates?

I had issues with my computer which got me into a situation where i had to delete all partitions of my drives, starting from 0. Signing in my firefox account in a fresh win install suddenly recovers NOTHING and i am now panicking as i had very important accounts & passwords, bookmarks, tabs, extensions, etc. I have tried other devices too without any luck. I need help recovering all these asap.

For several days I have been receiving pop up scams as illustrated in the first image attached. They repeat themselves every few minutes. The second image is what I received on the website listed at the bottom of the pop up - brnok. stoneheartseeker.top.

How do I stop them, please?

Also, is there a legitimate connection between Mozilla Firefox and brnok.stoneheartseeker.top?

My potato pc(amd A8-7600, 8G ram, rx560 2G) is not capable of YouTube vp9 hardware acceleration, but I played 1080p 60fps videos without difficulty using add-ons that force h264 decoding, but the videos started stuttering a while ago. Tired of the bullying tactics of Microsoft forcing me to accept Microsoft Edge when all I want is Google Chrome, so I'm thinking of making Mozilla my default browser, but I'm concerned about whether Mozilla will tranfer all my info. I sell the occasional bits on Etsy and Ebay. I had found the perfect tool to edit my photos on Chrome. Now this has gone haywire because I am forced into using Edge, which does not give me anything like the editing choices I have on Chrome. I have followed all the directions given by Microsoft to get off Edge and back into Chrome but they have all failed miserably, so I am trapped in Edge and all my efforts are turning into Groundhog Day ! Also if I return to Firefox, what will happen to all my photos, and the folders they are kept in ? As an 86 year old, I need clear, concise directions on how I can restore everything I need to be able to return to a browser I was completely comfortable with. Please advise.

Pubmed Central (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/) is a commonly used website for literature reading in life sicences research. I found that it takes a lot of time to load the PMC web page, and even worse to access an aricle in it, always more than 10 seconds (for example, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1234567/). These pages access smoothly in other browsers on my computer (MacBook Pro with M1, macOS Sonoma 14.0). I've tried the troubleshoot mode, and clearing all the cookies and cache, but it just doesn't work.

The subject website pge.com has blocked Firefox apparently because new function that they have instituted features that Firefox cannot support. The subject website states it does not support Firefox. Is this refusal to support on the subject website a known problem? I have searched the Firefox Help without results. Is this even considered a problem? I appreciate Firefox and would like to see it be a supported browser on the subject website.

My website base on the English language. How can I change my website language base on my user language? Is it possible? If it is than let me know about this. Because this will help my user perfectly understand. This is the website I'm talking about villa painting Dubai.

right click menu copy not clickable,cant copy but when I hit ctrl + c and copy something first then i can copy within the right menu fine with the same site, and no this is not a site issue chromium works just fine.

Email from a specific site is not showing in my yahoo email inbox. I can do a search for it and a list of emails from that site shows up. What do I have to do and how do I do it to make the email show up in my inbox?? Is there a way I can add it to firefox so its not blocked>>

I use 118.0.2 (64-bit) because I do not like the newer versions, but every time I open it I have to decline two consecutive Firefox popups urging me to upgrade to the newest version. Since I open Firefox dozens of times a day, these constant popups are driving me crazy. How can I stop them? Thanks.

This isn't a constant issue for me, but occasionally the browser will suddenly break such that when I switch tabs, nothing actually updates until I do something like restore/maximise the window. I can still interact with the page itself, but whether using the mouse or keyboard shortcuts, changing, opening, or closing tabs, or even typing in the navigation bar, won't do anything until I resize the window again. I haven't been able to figure out any pattern to when this state triggers, but after it does, it doesn't clear up without closing and reopening the browser. I have recorded a video showing this behavior but I am unable to upload it here, and still images would not properly convey the issue.
