I installed Firefox on a new device and initiated a sync for multi-account containers - it promptly synced in the wrong direction. It eliminated all customization from what should have been the source (the existing device), overwriting it with the default settings of a first-time installation. I was quite surprised.

This leads me to a couple of questions.

1. Is there a sync version history or any way of rolling back a sync? 2. Is there a way to explicitly choose the sync direction?

Quite honestly it is very confusing that there is no reference whatsoever to which way an initial sync will go. I was hesitant to risk this, decided to trust it knew what to do (even though it didn't give me any indication that it did) and lost my gamble.

Firefox knows the device names, so can I suggest some basic reassuring UX be inserted into this process with something like "Initiate sync from X-DEVICE-FIREFOX to Y-DEVICE-FIREFOX?". A bit of clarity would be helpful here, as well as a way to roll back a syncing mistake instead of just having to gamble possibly losing hard-won customization with no going back.

Or have I completely stumbled past some obvious place where everything I'm requesting exists and is accessible already?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

I sign into Firefox because I always believed it did something, but when I update the browser, I lose all my tabs. When restore previous session doesn't work, isn't that the point of signing into the browser so it remembers and you can push the whole Firefox session to another computer? Using this Firefox session on my MacBookPro and want it on my iMac and would like to know how to do that. Would like to know how to lock down the session too. What is going on right now, I don't understand where the session went. I'm logged in. What's the point of logging in? This is getting circular.

Recently booted off a new drive, when I originally signed in I had made a different firefox account since I was having verification issues. When I had that settled, I logged back into my old account which merged the two. It kept all of my old passwords and bookmarks I've made over the years, but it didn't keep my history. I've carefully sculpted my history for ages and I would really like to reaquire it somehow, let me know what's possible! Thanks.

I have Firefox on my laptop (Win10 Pro) and on my Android phone; just bought a new office computer that is running Win11. My laptop has a long list of bookmarks and a dozen or more open tabs. I would like to get this same setup on the new computer. I thought I followed directions but since it does not work I guess I have missed something important.

Go to the menu in upper right, then the > next to my account, which brings up Manage Account, Syncing, several other items, then a list of tabs on my phone, another list of tabs on my laptop, and a third list of tabs on an old computer that no longer exists. It has been syncing for 2-3 hours without evident progress. I would like to delete the dead computer to avoid confusion but see no way to do it. Mainly I want to sync with the laptop or, failing that, import the bookmarks from it.

I also copied the FF profile from the old computer into the new one. The files and directory structures are identical but FF cannot read the profile. I do not know what to do about any of this.

Hi,

I seem to be unable to find this information:

I have an old computer A, with old Firefox data which is synced to Firefox Sync. I am logged in Sync on this computer. I do not care for this data.

I also have a new computer B with new local Firefox data. This computer has never seen Sync at all. I want to keep this data.

If I log into Sync on computer B, can I make sure that its data isn't erased and replaced by computer A's data?

Thanks,

I noticed that in the "Synced Tabs" on Firefox for Windows 10, there are duplicate devices listed down that are not listed in my "Connected Devices" page. I noticed this after I was fixing a bug on my Firefox Installation that ended with me uninstalling and re-installing it, then signing back into sync.

Essentially, the "Synced Tabs" it shows 2 different "devices" for the same laptop:

What is even stranger is that these Duplicates don't show up on my other Firefox devices such as my Phone and iPad, they only appear on my laptop's instance of Firefox.

Hi,

brief backstory: When I set up my new desktop, I copied over the nightly profile from my laptop. This however meant that Firefox Sync kept confusing my laptop and my desktop, only ever keeping the most recently synced state from either. This persisted even after I changed the devices names.

Searching on the internet, I found a suggestion to delete `services.sync.client.GUID` from about:config. I did that, and long story short, I cannot open any websites on my desktop anymore. It fails immediately with SEC_ERROR_LIBRARY_FAILURE.

This error persists even after

  • Refreshing Firefox
  • Reinstalling Firefox
  • Creating a new Firefox profile

whenever I log back into Sync. So I tried deleting and recreating my Firefox account to get rid of whatever corrupted data is presumably stuck in the sync data, but even then the error still occurs. It only disappears if I create a new profile and *never sign into sync*, but this is not a long term solution.

Does anyone have an idea how to identify and delete whatever setting is causing firefox to choke?

I'm very sorry if it comes off as hostile. It's actually kind of out of fear that one day it will all break down.

As person on autistic spectrum I really need ability to maintain pleasant-to-eyes user layout. Even before the Quantum updates Firefox moved from pretty much perfect-looking browser to worse and worse (kinda Chrome-looking) one. That's why UserCss was a godsend.

http://prntscr.com/26cyw7p

But every few updates stuff breaks and I have to download yet another updated version of custom CSS, and often at least one option I am using actively is no longer available because firefox update broke it for good. Today was such day - after Firefox updated, suddenly tabs were way too high, extending into favorites tabs. After updating and reconfiguring (since config files are different with each iteration), four more customization options gone in between last and current CSS update.

I understand going forward and such, but if the visuals peaked in 2007, why not keep all the CSS working properly when doing so? Just do not remove old calls and such?

I tried multiple times to sign up using my email address that uses the domain @sleepy.fish. I was slightly tipped off when firefox attempted to ask if I had made a mistake entering my email... i tried multiple ways to get the verification emails send both via web client and ios app and it simply would not send. To sanity check I created a new account using an old @gmail.com address and immediately got the verification email.

I'm kinda migrating off of mega corp google products though, hence the signing up for firefox sync haha. Would be great if I could figure out how to ensure delivery of the verification email so I can complete account setup with my custom domain email

I use the Firefox app on an Android phone and I've renamed the device to "Samsung Galaxy A50". When I use Firefox on my computer if I click on the "Show tabs from other devices" button instead of my custom name it shows a default name with the model number.

"Send Page to Device" does display the personalized name.

I've tried logging off from the Android app and logging in again. The custom name appears for a few hours but then reverts to the default name again.

I normally use Firefox desktop on my Linux computer.

Last week, I started using it on a public computer running Windows. I installed Firefox Portable and then logged/synced into my Firefox account on this Win computer. I noticed that in the Firefox Portable Windows “about:preferences” page, it says “Your browser is being managed by your organization”, which links to about:policies. In that “about:policies” page, it shows this https://i.imgur.com/JmD8nXg.png Policy Name: DisableAppUpdate Policy Value: true. Now I’m back on my Linux desktop computer and it also has this “managed by your organization” message in “about:preferences” and the same “about:policies” stuff. In other words, it appears that this policy was copied from the Windows public computer to my personal Linux computer. I don’t want that.

How can I undo this? And how can I block this sort of policy syncing?

I begin to use firefox developer edition alongside firefox regular version. I've read some article that say if these 2 difference version using 2 seperate different profile, but it seems they're not. For example, when I change the theme to light for firefox and dark for firefox devedition, they always syncing each other so it use the theme the last set regardless where is set.

My question, is firefox and firefox devedition really using 2 seperate different profile? Can I use different setup like themes, addons for only one version? Where I can read the official documentation?
