Firefox is my default browser. It’s bookmark manager is incredible! However, I have many Firefox (and other browser) exported files I need to consolidate. The Firefox bookmark manager is so good I can drag and drop bookmarks from these other files into Firefox.

I want to consolidate these bookmarks using the Firefox bookmark engine, but not by interfering with the bookmarks currently in Firefox. Also, since this will take a while, I don’t want to export my current Firefox bookmarks; clean out my current bookmarks; and spend the next two weeks using other browsers while I employ Firefox to clean up my bookmark situation.

Three Questions 1) Can I bring up another/unique Firefox window (like an earlier version; a separate window; a second install that I can open/close separate from the install I’m using now) that I can scrub clean of all bookmarks use it to rebuild all my bookmarks by dragging/dropping bookmarks from my many saved .html bookmark files--WITHOUT MESSING WITH MY CURRENT BOOKMARKS? 2) Alternatively, is it possible to just install the Firefox bookmark engine, separate from the Firefox browser? 3) Also, is there a simple way to instruct Firefox’s bookmark manager to delete duplicate bookmarks?

Thanks

Is there any way to recover my bookmarks? I still have some Firefox folders in my Trash folder as shown in the attachment.

I'll appreciate your help.

"Show all bookmarks" seems to have vanished. How can I get it back, so I can back up my bookmarks? Or is there another way to do that? (Should have been clear about this: no problem finding the library symbol, opening the bookmarks toolbar or opening the bookmarks sidebar. However, the "show all bookmarks" entry is missing from the sidebar. The main headers on the sidebar are "bookmarks toolbar", "bookmarks menu", and "other bookmarks". "Show all bookmarks" is not a header and I cannot find it in any of the others. If I search for it in "search bookmarks", nothing emerges.)

Why won't the bookmark in 'Other BookMarks' go away when I 'move' it (drag and drop) to where I want it in my saved bookmark directories? This is a copy not a move and I want a move function.

Why can't I delete a BookMark from 'Other BookMarks' without the same bookmark getting deleted where I sorted it (there is a link that shouldn't be there).

both these issues make it impossible to manage 'Other Bookmarks' and keep it tidy and minimal

My bookmarks and history are gone. There is a red banner across the top, which reads, "The bookmarks and history system will not be functional because one of Firefox's files is in use by another application. Some security software can cause this problem." No matter what I do, I can't seem to get either fixed.

Hi, I was trying to bind some common Firefox command to my programmable mouse and I am having some trouble: Basically, I want to remap the opening of the "Favorites" and "History" DROP-DOWN menus to my mouse extra buttons.

However, all the shortcuts I found online only allow me to open the "sidebar" view or the bookmark "management" menus (<Ctrl>+B and <Ctrl>+<Shift>+B)

I just want a button (or button combination) that opens my comfy drop down menus, not those overcomplicated menus (that even require and additional click to close down once you pick up the website to want to visit).

Any ideas?

How is it possible to go back and revert my toolbar that synced with my work PC. I have 5 plus years of bookmarks and folders that I have lost due to the fact it synced up. Is the older data synced anywhere on my local Mac PC??

To Be clear-my synced version is through Mozilla which I did not know was not signed in for yearsw on my mac desktop at home but should or could've been. So therefor all my work is lost as it updated to my new work PC. The lost version is the master,

I uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. No bookmarks. I did a Revo Uninstall and cleared the registry. No bookmarks. I deleted the localstore.rdf. No bookmarks. This is kinda a deal breaker for me. I might have to go to Chrome or IE.

I'm about to change Linux distribution and have around 20 thousand links (according to Library and Search). Most of those links are in category folders and sub folders and stuff gets routinely deleted when not needed, entire categories are often deleted when done with.

If I backup the current bookmarks, the HTML file comes to 7.7 MiB and JSON file 7.3 MiB. How can I be sure those backup files actually contain my current 20k worth of links??

It just seems a small file size for such a large amount of links. I'm sure I've seen larger backup file sizes than that in the past but it could be that things have changed under the hood and things have got more compressed.

I can't really afford to discover that I've lost a load of links and folders when I come to set Firefox back up in a new distro (using import). It's bad enough Firefox ignores any current layout integrity when bookmarks get imported over into a new set up and I end up having to re-order everything over the following days. But I'm grateful that previous large (but smaller than this) backup bookmark files do usually end up whole.

Thanks.

Greetings kind people.

lately i wanted to edit that file to add/delete entries and other maintanence.

I looked at a few details about the databases inside the file but still couldn't understand what each database is and what it contains.

I would just like details about the databases and which of them i need to edit to remove or add history or bookmarks entries.

Where are my saved websites saved? Also, am I able to "share" the file over my LAN? I have a desktop PC and a laptop connected to my network. What I would like to do is make it so whether I save (or bookmark?) a site on the laptop or desktop it is available on both. Does this make sense? If I need to do a better job explaining just let me know. Currently, I am successfully sharing the IE 'Favorites' folder so the links are always in sync and the same links are available on both of my machines.

Hi, please could I have some help with the following?

I had firefox installed on the same partition as the windows I booted from. Due to an error this partition would no longer boot and I had to install windows and firefox clean on a seperate drive.

I've managed to get the partition working again and can access all the files on it again. Unfortunately when i load up the firefox on the previously failed partition it appears to load up the same version as I installed most recently. None of my old book marks are in the menu which is what I am trying to access. I've looked on here for help and the following don't seem to apply to me...

- There's no profiles folder in the old partition so I can't find Places.sqlite. - Troubleshooting>Show Folder points to the application data on the new install drive - There doesn't appear to be backup.json files on the old partition

So my question is is there anywhere on the old partition you can think where my old bookmarks may be stored?

Any suggestions would be appreciated Many thanks JD

In the previous versions of Firefox, when you click on the star near the url, you can add this website on your favorites. Another click and you can edit some fields about this bookmark, like the url, the folder, etc...

But with FF17, the Description field is no longer there. You can only find it when managing your bookmarks, that is not really user friendly.

Is there a way to add again the description field when clicking on the gold star? It's very useful for adding notes about this website, and it's also synch with addins like Xmarks

I accidentally replaced my backup with the current bookmarks while trying to import from it. The original bookmarks were not present in Bookmark Backup in Profiles so I used Recuva for recovery. Now, Firefox gives the 'Unable to process backup file' thingy.

System Restore hasn't helped either.
