In making this post I am following instructions found at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-crashes-closing-or-quitting, which include the statement "Fill out the Details section of the next page..." which seems to refer to THIS page, but I see no Details section here, so I'll just put the details where they seem to apply.

Firefox Version 102, installed today, shows the same symptom I've been seeing for several weeks, perhaps months: whenever Firefox is closed, a crash report popup appears on the screen (after a minute or two). I've been submitting these on a regular basis and hoped that Version 102 would contain a fix, but the issue continues.

So today I've created some minimum-to-reproduce examples, in each case using the same setup, but closing Firefox in a different manner:

Setup: Firefox for Windows V 102 installed today. Windows 10 is up to date. I open Firefox in troubleshooting mode, which displays my home page, located on a shared server that I use for a website and other stuff I want to be able to access from anywhere. Nothing exotic, just a list of links. That works.

Then, without doing anything else (for purposes of these tests), I close Firefox via one of the following (with associated report ID):

  • Click on large X in the upper right corner of the window.
   bp-e31ef7d6-8d17-41c8-a204-0e53c0220630e
  • In the window menu, select File > Exit.
  bp-d15f97c8-267f-4550-9d42-69eb70220630
  • On the task bar, RMB on Firefox, then select 'Close window'.
 bp-39756c12-ccb7-4f83-998a-ec8030220630

My system is an HP laptop with AMD Vision A6 processor. My wife uses a Dell all-in-one on the same wired network and does not experience the crash-on-close symptom. This makes me suspect my hardware, but just tested with other browsers:

Chrome - Blocked my home page (never saw that before, but I use Firefox...) until I removed the block from Settings. Closed without crashing. Edge - Updated itself, then gave me the same "Not secure" warning as Chrome, but displayed the home page anyway. Closed without crashing.

In all cases, the link to my home page is specified as http://, not https:// My wife's system is set up the same way.

My question: How can I get Firefox to close gracefully, without spitting out a crash report 1-2 minutes later? Note that I can OPEN Firefox and use it for hours without incident, but if I close it and do something else, when I close THAT, there's the Firefox crash report window underneath.

I just ran the w3.org validator on my home page and I see that a few errors have crept in,. mostly unencoded ampersands. I'll fix those, but if that caused a problem for Firefox, would it wait until much later to crash? And why only on my system, not my wife's?

Suggestions?

M1 Mac, Macos 12.4

After installing Firefox 102.0 neither of my computers will open Reddit pages. As far as I can tell, all other sites appear to work normally and Reddit functioned before the Firefox update. I restarted Firefox, restarted my computers, deleted Firefox and Reddit history and cache ... nothing so far has solved the problem. Reddit works as expected in Safari.

Any and all suggestions will be appreciated!

Hello,

I lost my bookmarks when I changed my password. Can Firefox recover them on its servers? I've seen many similar complaints arising from similar problems. One would think that Firefox would address this issue to improve the user experience.

Hello! Hoping someone can help with this new (to me) issue. I've searched and can't seem to find any articles/threads.

When I open the wifi menu on my laptop, I also see a media player featuring a video I watched three days ago (image attached). I've used my computer several times since then and didn't notice it. It also doesn't appear to be functional, as when I click play, nothing happens.

Is there a setting I'm missing to get this to go away and to prevent it from coming back again?

Thanks in advance!

I've been noticing this more and more recently. I'm using Firefox 102.0 on a Mac running Monterey (12.4) with 64GB RAM. Firefox will suddenly zoom up on a screen between 400% up to 800% (I'm guessing; no way to verify this): see screenshot. This happens on random pages without my hitting any keys or clicking on anything, and I cannot replicate it. Note that I do not have screen zoom engaged, nor do I have any sort of zoom mechanism turned on in the OS. Hitting "undo" does nothing, as the browser thinks I'm trying to undo an action on the page, not a zoom. Resetting Firefox or restarting makes no difference.

Note that the screenshot is at actual size, but I have no way to control the resolution at which it shows up for you.

Greetings, I've checked a few articles in Firefox to help with my question, but none of them are helping. (Here's the main article: http://example.com.) Here's the situation. Say I go to a website's Contact page and click the button to contact someone, a window appears and asks me what app I want to use to open the email. Gmail is my default email, and Firefox is my default browser, and I use Windows 10. When I open the window of options (see attached screenshot) to open the email, and I then click "Choose Other Application" (other than Firefox), I don't see the Gmail app anywhere. I then followed the directions in that link above to check my Windows settings, per its suggestion, which I did ... but in those settings, too, I got to a point where the directions no longer matched what I'm seeing on my screen. I didn't see the Gmail app anywhere. Could you let me know in simple layperson's terms how to open Gmail links in Firefox? I don't have a PhD in computer science, so please keep it very simple. Thanks in advance! Best wishes, Bill

Hello,

I've recently encountered a curious issue with my Firefox browser (Firefox version 102.0, Windows 11 Insider Preview 10.0.25145.1011). At seemingly random times it will freeze for between two and five minutes (roughly). UI elements become completely unresponsive and the cursor does not update when moving over the browser window. The window will not minimize. Yet, Windows Task Manager does not report the application as being unresponsive. While never a common problem, any freezes in the past would eventually cause the Windows Task Manager to identify it as unresponsive.

I have disabled "recommended performance settings" and hardware acceleration to no avail. Everything seems perfectly normal immediately before and after the freezes, and I've yet to identify how I can trigger them. I do not recall having made any changes to my browser before the freezes started occurring, though multiple Windows updates have taken place since then. If I'm too impatient to wait I will end the Firefox processes via Windows Task Manager and restart it so I can return to my tabs without having cookies deleted. I have 13 plugins mainly covering privacy/security concerns. Is there some sort of debug tool I can engage to see what's occupying Firefox while it's frozen? I've just found the Firefox Task Manager, and will see if it can offer any additional information during/after the freezes.

Thanks, Logan

We frequently visit sites that use long query strings. Some of these strings are unique and session-specific, and the server will never allow them to be used again. Other query string variables are used for session-specific navigation, like a page number or a record ID, and we may never have interest in trying to get back to that exact same spot within an application, but we might want to save some higher-level entry point. As a simple example, look at your history and see how many entries there are for 'www.google.com/url'.

To reduce the size of my history, I'd like to filter what gets logged. Actually I don't mind "History" for history's sake as a record of places we've actually been. The problem is that the same database is used for autotype and other purposes. The current implementation is not ideal for going back and visiting "applications" versus "specific web addresses". Maybe it's better to state that History should track URI's but when we are navigating back through History to go back to a specific page we're more interested in a less-specific URL. Using Google as an example again, it's OK for History to record the fact that I've visited a hundred Google search pages, or page 2,3,4 for a specific search, but ultimately I might only want to save the part of the query string that is relevant to a specific search. The next time I go back to some page there might not be a page 4, so if I'm going through history again for the purpose of revisiting pages, I just want to see page 1 of the results.

Can anyone recommend a plugin that allows regex filtering of history, or recording of page visits into a different database in addition to Firefox History? From there of course it would be convenient to filter that data by time and otherwise, just like History.

From a developer perspective, History gets written to a specific database/file - can someone tell us exactly which file and format that is? I might be able to write a post-processor that filters out underable records.

Is there a better approach to managing history? Is History just an automatic Bookmark, meaning I should be looking for a bookmark manager for this? Or maybe we should do a mass copy of History into a dedicated Bookmark folder, manipulate records there, and use that for back-navigation?

Time to create an Enhancement request?

Should I write a plugin? :)

Thanks.
