When I am on a site and wish to send a message, mail pops up from me to the contact address and then I have all this Chinese text in the body of the message. What is this for? Is it a virus or malware or something else that has been planted in mail used via Firefox. I always use Yahoo mail, separately but this mail box pops up in firefox when I click on contact in many websites.

Hi I have 'restore previous session' set in Firefox and it does this except that I usually close FF with all but one window minimised. When I start FF for the next session it opens all the windows and I have to close them all then choose the one I was using last.

Is it possible to get FF to respect the minimisation of windows over sessions?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Been using FF since 2005ish. (Me 1946) Latest version (90.0.2 (64-bit) annoys me greatly because I can't remove the unwanted 'Pocket' BS. I've followed several online 'advices' on this, including this site, & still it persists.

FF is getting like IE IMO, with all the awkwardness to remove unwanted Bloatware. For an 'Ordinary User'. Could some knowledgeable FF user please explain, in language I can understand, English, but not very Tech Savvy) how I remove Pocket from the browser Thanks.

When version 89.2 rolled out, I was highly displeased by the fact that the default theme now no longer properly reflected the Windows theme settings (extremely noticeable on my end, since I use the Windows Classic theme with customized "3D object" colors); this defect had already affected the options dropdown but had now spread to the address/navigation bar, bookmarks toolbar, and scrollbar. This was extremely annoying, especially since none of the add-on themes can properly duplicate that aesthetic function. One of the things I liked about Firefox was that unlike Chrome, Opera, and Edge... it actually still respected the Windows theme settings (which programs like browsers should do by default). And now, that prized trait had been inexplicably and insensibly discarded.

I was further displeased by the removal of the dividing lines between tabs. This made Firefox substantially harder for me to use, almost headache-inducingly so. Whoever you have testing these changes before rollout - if anyone - should be replaced, because this was a massive accessibility downgrade. Unacceptably so.

These changes were so frustrating and ugly, and made the browser so much more difficult for me to use, that I reverted to version 88 and continue to remain on that version.

Does version 90 resolve these issues? If it does, I'll update. But if not.... then in my opinion it should be axed and you should cease pushing it in favor of working on a new version that does fix these poor decisions. And I'll be sticking to version 88 until that happens.

I really dislike the look of the tabs in the newest version. A floating bubble, not connected to the page, for the active tab? And the inactive tabs are connected, but there is no separation between the tabs? Aside from uninstalling the latest version and installing a previous version, is there a way to restore the look of the previous version? Maybe an add-on? If I have to reinstall an old version I'll probably just switch over to a different browser.

Hi all,

i'm currently developing an add-on that has an import from file feature that needs to open an "Open file" dialog, now the problem is that in order to do that i had to do the following:

  • inject some javascript code in the active page as a content script
  • call the execute command from the extension to open the dialog popup (that is actually emulating a click)

I have to do it, because from an extension when a "File open" dialog appear, the extension lose the focus and it is automatically closed, and its context destroyed, so when i actually press open on the dialog, the "caller" is already gone (https://stackoverflow.com/questions/26884140/open-import-file-in-a-chrome-extension/26917671#26917671 you can refer to my stackoverflow question to get an idea of what i was doing)

This works fine in chrome (And it worked for a while on firefox) but probably in the latest months/years (not sure when it happened) it stopped working and when i press the import button nothing happens, after some investigation i found what is the problem: the "block popup" windows option enabled by default (i suppose it is enabled by default i don't remember to have never enabled it), so when i disable it, the feature resume working. What i'm wondering is if there is a way to programmatically add an exception to the popup blocker option while installing the extension, or if there is any way to avoid closing the exception popup when the "File Open" Dialog appears.

Thanks everyone

When I am on a web page for which I wish to use the microphone and camera, the pop up/down up by the URL does indeed show up for authorizing the use of the camera and microphone. However the tick box "Remember this decision" is no longer present.

Once I have hit Allow, the only option that I have when I click on the camera icon to the left of the URL is to click the X next to Allowed Temporarily.

Under Settings/Permissions the Camera does not show the site for which I have given permissions. Interestingly under Microphone the site is in the list under permission but I am still asked when I go to the page.

I have both a built in camera and microphone in this HP but I almost always use my Logitech 9000 as the picture and microphone are much better.

This used to work fine until recently. How do I get the "Remember this decision" option back?

Windows 10 Firefox 90.0.2

Every solution which I have found for Firefox 89 "Proton" so far which moves the Tabs Bar below the Navigation Bar (AKA "address bar"), with the Menu Bar above it, does NOT move the Tabs Bar below the Bookmarks Bar. The Bookmarks Bar appears to be overwritten and blank, and occupies space below the Menu Bar, Navigation Bar, and Tabs Bar. This empty space separates the three bars which are implemented and the content of the currently-selected tab below it.

Evidently, the text editor for this website does several things to the above original text that, frankly, seem unnecessary and undesirable. The .CSS file is just an unformatted text file, so what is the problem with simply copying its contents and pasting it in to the body of this post?

Which is also to say that I do NOT have a clue as to what any line in the file is meant to do, what effect it has, why it is even in the file at all, or why it is written in the way that it is. So DO NOT tell me that I "CAN" create a Cascading Style Sheet on my own when I cannot even modify one that has been provided.

On the face of it, something is missing from the above CSS text. What change needs to be made to the above content so that the Bookmark Bar will appear between the Navigation Bar and the Tabs Bar??

Thank-you very much for your time and attention to this request for assistance.

I'm trying to completely turn off the address search bar function in Firefox. It' so annoying! I go to google. Start to type in the search bar on the page but all my typing ends up in the address bar. So frustrating! If I wanted to search from the address bar I wouldn't have gone to Google to do it. I DON'T want to search from the address bar EVER! So please don't say 'why don't you just..x,y or z'. I've managed to turn off all the address bar suggestions and whatnot with about a dozen different setting which is ridiculous. Turning off the rich results should fix everything but it doesn't. No mater what I try I cannot get text to appear in the Google search bar. So basically Firefox has stolen the functionality of the Google webpage for me. I've been using Firefox for a long time but lately I'm been questioning why a lot. Anyway, any suggestions to stop Firefox from hijacking my search would be appreciated.
