How do I use the Mail feature in Firefox - change the "From" address?

I am new to using Firefox. I have been “testing” it as an alternative to using Internet Explorer. Used only as a browser, so far it appears to be a reasonable substitute.

However, I have a couple of questions: 1) It has been suggested by “outsiders” that “FF” has better ‘security’ than “IE”. I know that “IE” provides very timely automatic updates for viruses, etc. as they are identified and “fixed”. Can/does “FF” do the same?

2) However, the “Mail” function of “FF” is VERY UNSATISFACTORY!!! The default (and only?) email address used as the “From” address is the Internet site being browsed by “FF”. “IE” has the capability to use an alternative email address as the “From:” address.

Can “FF” do likewise? If so, HOW?? Can “FF” provide a “From:” entry-line on the mail screen, along with the “To:” and “Subject:” lines, to do that??

Please reply by email to Terry Mueller @ TDM_Biz@att.net!!! I regularly check my email; but my connection here is very sporadic.

I would like to consider using “FF” as a full-time substitute for “IE”; but the above “short-coming” will cause that to be, at best, delayed or completely forgotten!!!

I am font-fussy and want a very readable sleek font, as I do a lot of reading online and want to avoid eye strain. But there's no way to tell what the font looks like without the time consuming task of setting each one to see what it looks like. It would be nice to see a sample display right in the selection screen when you choose a font but before actually changing it, much like Windows does in some applications, or even a page with a sample of all the default fonts. Or perhaps there is and I've not noticed?

I don't like the old standby Times New Roman. Ariel is my intermediate choice but I know there's a better one out there, I had one but I lost my old settings, it kept glitching my reinstall of FF so I went with a fresh install, and as a result have lost my old font setting.

I have had Mozilla Firefox for years. My computer is a Dell 9100 , and I use Windows XP. I have upgraded to each version of Firefox that was offered to me. Each upgrade was quick and easily done--up to, and including, Firefox 3.6.10 . I tried many times to upgrade to Firefox 3.6.11 , each time with no success. I have something like 21 copies of the downloaded Firefox 3.6.11 package. The next day, I resumed by quest to download & install 3.6.11 and saw, on my monitor, the 3.6.12 version of Firefox downloading. I don't recall how this happened. I know that I was only trying to download and install version 3.6.11 . Now, I seem to have, by looking at "About Mozilla Firefox" under "Help", Firefox 3.6.12 .

Q1. Is there a way I can check to see whether I have a valid download of 3.6.11 and/or 3.6.12 in my Firefox setup?

Q2. How can I know that all is OK, Firefox-wise? The answer to this question probably can help me a lot, in the future.

Q3. Can I delete all, or perhaps all but one, of those 3.6.11 downloads?

Q4. Any idea on why my difficulties occurred?

Q5. How might I avoid these difficulties in the future?

Thank you for your help.
