Firefox version is 142.0.1, and is reported as up to date. MacOS Sequoia. Page Info. Camera permission I am unable to manually uncheck the default Always ask which is required before being able to check the Allow toggle.

I am experiencing a recurring issue with Firefox microphone permissions.

When I visit https://chatgpt.com and allow microphone access, it works for the current session. However, every time I open a new window or restart Firefox, I receive the same “Enable mic access” error from the site. I have to manually re-set the microphone permission through the lock icon each time.

Steps I have already tried:

Manually setting https://chatgpt.com to Allow in Firefox → Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions → Microphone.

Adding https://chatgpt.com as an exception in Cookies and Site Data (set to Allow).

Clearing site data and resetting permissions.

Confirming microphone access is enabled in Windows settings.

Running Firefox in Safe Mode with all extensions disabled.

Creating a fresh Firefox profile and testing again.

The issue persists across profiles and with no extensions enabled. Other sites seem to remember microphone permissions correctly, but chatgpt.com does not.

System details:

Reproducible: Always

Expected result: Once I set the microphone permission to Allow for chatgpt.com, Firefox should persist this setting across sessions.

Actual result: The permission resets, and I have to manually toggle it on each new session.

So I am THIS close to uninstalling firefox forever. Every 10 seconds, when I have a google tab open, it brings me to my permissions on location, and asks me to give permission. I turned it off in firefox settings 'block new location requests' but it keeps happening. I have location turned off on my PC, and don't wish to turn it on. This is INCREDIBLY frustrating as I can't use google now because of it. How do I stop it.

I've blocked access to nearby devices without knowing that this would affect my local network websites. Now the option to change this on the settings simply does not appear for me. What can I do?

I have some custom firefox applets that acts as wrappers around the command-line functions to open firefox with specific profiles (see image 1 of applets in Applications in Finder). Each application is a simple .scpt file that runs the shell script (see image 2).

This allows me to have specific app icons for the different firefox profiles in my user dock (see image 3).

The issue is that once the applet is used and firefox has been opened, there are issues with permissions. In settings, it is clear that both microphone and speaker permissions have been shared with the applets AND firefox itself (see image 4).

However, any time I navigate to a page, I get a dialogue asking if the applet (Firefox_Professional, in this case) can access the microphone (see image 5). Depending on the page, I can get 1-20 dialogues in a row. This makes firefox practically unusable since I am closing an average of 5 dialogues before I can view any page.

Does anyone know any solutions to this?

I got a popup from firefox saying "allow firefox to share with devices on my local networks?" I said yes but now realize Im not sure what i agreed to. What is this specifically? How do i turn this off again? Thanks

I blocked it for a quick second. I had no idea it would be a multi hour nightmare to get it back on, and it still isn't. Why? Well because the "help link" page no longer exits, ratherthe page that the image that it shows no longer exists. You don't have the option to turn it back on, and why in the hell would I have to go to firefox settings to turn it back on to begin with.

I literally just now figured it out. Holy fuck. For me anyway.

Go into discord settings and click on the voice & video and hit "let's check". Click yes when it asks to allow permission.

I'm just so damn glad someone got butthurt earlier and erased my post. You're fucking trash for doing that.

Hopefully this is actually helpful to folks having problems. I'm not a butthurt little bitch like the folks that look over this site. I actually help.
