It's all in the title. The "quick searches" feature that pops up when I highlight text is a lot more annoying then useful, so I turned it off... and it seems to re-enable itself randomly. One time I disabled it, and after 5 seconds, it re-enabled itself. So annoying. I've made so many accidental searches with that stupid feature. I mean, how many people copy text just to search it up? Even then, they can highlight the text, right click, then click "Search (engline) for (text)".
The point being, the feature is re-enabling itself randomly, and it's getting on my nerves.
I don't see any option within the settings to turn it off. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Stephen

Is there anyway to restore the format (compactness) of the Bookmark Menus without setting the Automatic Updates to not automatically update and then downloading the 88.0.1 version? I hate to not have the Automatic Updates, for obvious reasons, but don't want to use the double space of the Bookmarks even more.

Hi,
The right-click context menu has a "open image in new tab" option with a handy keyboard shortcut, however using it one goes in to the new tab with the opened image. Is there any way to use the "open image in new tab" but staying in the current tab?
Thanks.

My money program uses an importer to download files directly (rather than saving to desktop & manually importing. The institutions' choices always include OFX, QFX, and QIF. The Application list in Options lists OFX -- in two places-- and QFX. Both are assigned to the importer.
No matter what format I choose, I have to browse for the importer (several clicks). To check, I downloaded account information for several accounts held with the same institution, cycling through those 3 formats. Same result each time. "Always do this" is checked and OFX and QFX are assigned to the importer as you can see in the screenshot.
Shouldn't FF be adding QIF when I download activity in that format? I certainly didn't add OFX or QFX manually! And can anyone explain why "Use importer" is broken?
TIA mm

Made several posts about floating videos and never one answer over the course of two years that I can recall. One of the biggest user problems with FF and we get -- nothing. If the developers are incapable of solving this go ahead and tell us ! We can look for other browser options. I have researched everything to do with the matter and the topic just round and round and round in circles. Dozens claim to have the answer but they are all full of hooey. Simple question -- time to start looking for options other than FF ?

The Firefox process seems to freeze after "mouse button up" from "Save Image As". Sometimes the context menu stays frozen on the screen, sometimes it does not. There is no ability to switch tabs or cancel the context menu. The image itself never saves to disk. I have reformatted and installed Firefox several times fresh out of the box and it still has this behavior. Running Firefox from the console and having Firefox freeze gives no indication or error or message about what is going on. I would say this happens 1 out of 20 images saved. I can easily reproduce this behavior, even though it is inconsistent.

Like several others recently posted, since at least the last upgrade I cannot get LinkedIn to open in Firefox. I can get to it in several other browsers on my Win 10 Pro 64-bit system. I've tried all the "fixes" posted by others without success, so I'm assuming that the problem is something that Mozilla broke with its last update. Also unfortunately, the Firefox problem submission form is currently offline, so I'm hoping someone involved with the development and help process is monitoring these kinds of posts so they can learn about problems that need to be fixed.

From the very start, for the last 25+ years, Right Click a link, and hit the letter W to open the link in a new window... Suddenly, with 88 Update, it is now the letter D. (while everything else in Windows is still W)
How do I get it back to [W] (Industry Standard is W)
Why did Mozilla change the letter to D?
I don't mind having to train myself to use D instead of W... I do mind that everything else still uses W, so I have to train myself to only use D in Firefox.

Hi,
I'd like to use keyboard media keys (play/pause, prev, next) to control Spotify web player and Youtube but they don't work. The option is enabled. I'm using Firefox 88.0 on Windows 8.1, so according to this article it should be supported. The keys work on other apps. I've tried in troubleshooting mode as well, no luck. Any ideas?

Same with Google Earth in the browser. My IP location is correct and shows I'm in AZ. It's seems to be a Firefox issue. I've turned location off and back on. Cleared cookies. I'm at a loss.

I've been a long time Firefox user since around 2005 and have always enjoyed Firefox until now. This issue has been ongoing for over a year though. I never would have thought that a simple task as entering a web address in the address bar and hitting enter would become so difficult, though for a while now this seems to be the case and to the point to where I'm considering not bothering with the Firefox browser anymore. I do enjoy where Firefox is now in current development and the way it looks as well the great performance. However, when basic functionality such as typing in a web address and hitting enter becomes difficult all the aforementioned positives become less and less relevant. It seemed to all start when development came to redesign the appearance of the UI, not sure what version. Basically, what I come to experience now roughly 90 percent of the time I type a web address in the address bar and hit enter is the browser does nothing. Sometimes it takes 5 to 6 tries with having to put the mouse courser back into the address bar and hitting enter multiple times before the browser decides it want's to go the website. Same issue occurs when opening a bookmark in another tab, switch to the tab and the site isn't loaded, have to hit enter multiple times before the web address will begin to load. Seems also that any setting regarding tabs background loading isn't present anymore in the settings either. Same issue will occur when selecting a favorite that comes up while typing in the address bar.
Recently I had reinstalled my entire operating system and was hopeful that this issue would be resolved by doing so with a fresh install of Firefox too, though the issue is still present.
I have no add-ons or themes that modify the address bar, nor any search add-ons. In fact, this issue occurs with no add-ons installed at all. The only thing I can think currently is that it is an issue and or bug of some kind within the search and or address bar settings current design.
My settings here are attached as images.

I set about updating my e-mail address on this forum. I followed a hyperlink which had been e-mailed to me automatically in the past by the forum, and which pointed to support.mozilla.org
The first screen (whose URL I don't want to try to get right now because doing so might sign me out of my Support.Mozilla.org account) offered only an option for creating a new account, not signing into an existing account. It turns out that this is a very significant wording mistake that needs to be corrected.
Since I thought my existing account didn't exist anymore, I made a new account with my new e-mail address.
Then I found that the short username assigned to my new account had a "1" suffixed - which meant that my existing account did exist after all. So I deleted the new account. I also managed to sign into my existing account by using the misleadingly named "Create a new account" method.
The next problem was how to change my primary e-mail address. There is no evident way to do this. I eventually found article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-primary-email-address-firefox-accounts which confirmed my suspicion that the recommended workaround is to add the new address as a "secondary address," then delete the primary address. This is another significant issue that needs to be corrected. I'm registered on possibly dozens of Web forums etc. & all of them (except Mozilla) simply let me change my e-mail address when I need to.
Anyway, now apparently the support forum doesn't let me add my current e-mail address as a secondary e-mail address, because there is still a record of this address on the defunct account that I just now created. Also, the error message here is worded incorrectly (it claims that my new e-mail address is the same as my old e-mail address).
Can I please have assistance from a forum admin in getting my e-mail address updated, without change to my short username.
I also wish there were a more obvious way to ask for help (or raise defect reports) regarding the forum itself.
Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I recently was forced to change the address of my blog from "universalism.com.au" to "universalism-au.com" (due to silly legal requirements introduced a few months back about requiring an ABN if you want to use the .au suffix).
"universalism.com.au" is now a dead link, but when I start typing "uni..." in the address bar, it always autocompletes to this old and depreciated url rather than my new one. I would like to be able to type "uni..." and have it autocomplete to the new address, "universalism-au.com"
I have cleared what seems relevant from my browsing history, but no luck. Is this perhaps being caused by my default search engine (duckduckgo) recommending the wrong address?
I have attached a screenshot if this helps.

Over the last couple of days we are seeing instances of Firefox just disappearing from Windows 10 and just today from a Windows 7 pc. When I say disappears, the desktop shortcut becomes dead, click on it and a prompt to search for firefox.exe comes up. Checking Add / Remove programs shows Firefox to be installed. Checking C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox reveals empty folders with the exception of a couple of text files. Trying to reinstall the Firefox app, we are prompted with a message that Firefox.exe can't be found, and there is a button to browse for it. The only solution we have found for this is to copy the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder from a working pc, and we just received a call from a user we did this for telling us that it is gone again. Any ideas?
Thanks.....

I have recently had an issue in which I went over to Amazon, only to have firefox claim that there was an attempt at a cross site scripting ("XSS") attack. I normally just set these to be blocked, as I usually find it better to err on the side of caution when I see that popup. However, this appears to be a false positive, as now I cannot use Amazon's 'look inside' feature when I use the site. As this supposed XSS warning was the only thing that recently cropped up, I have to assume that this is why this piece of Amazon's website isn't functioning properly. How do I check on what I have blocked and how do I unblock anything that has since been discovered to be a false positive?

Hello,
How can I permanently deactivate this nagging update reminder in the upper right corner (green arrow over Application Menu button) and frequent pop-ups in upper right corner where I have to repeatedly click on "Not Now"?
I'm not upgrading to v89 because the next update will once again BREAK my userChrome.css code and my user interface (with tabs on bottom and custom button images) will appear scrambled.
I'm quite tired of having to jump through hoops and search for CSS solutions to fix these issues every few updates. It causes me too much anxiety.
I'm sticking with v88.0.1 for the forseeable future.
How can I shut off this annoying update reminder permanently?
Thanks.
