Hello,

When FF on my Windows 10 machine crashed FF asked if I wanted to refresh FF. I said yes, and FF reopened as usual with all my tabs. After I closed and reopened FF the next time, it reopened without any of my tabs. I then discovered that FF had unchecked the “Startup Open previous windows and tabs” box, which I had previously religiously monitored to be sure it was checked. So I lost all my previous tabs.

In my sessionstore-backups folder I found the file upgrade.jsonlz4-20 as last in a list of three more recent file names. I then dropped the file upgrade.jsonlz4-20 in the scrounger tool on this site: https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html. It expanded in the big window, and when I clicked on Save uncompressed JSON as text, I see all the URLs run together in a text file.

How can I use this information to recover my tabs, please? If so, how? Or is there a better way to use the Scrounger – or another – tool?

Otherwise if I delete the three more recent file names in the list above the upgrade.jsonlz4-20 file, and restart FF will I recover the missing tabs? If so would I the check or uncheck the Startup Open previous windows and tabs box?

Lastly, can I restore my missing tabs using Windows’ “System restore” tool from 3 days before the crash?

This has happened twice now - I've had a main window open with 100+ tabs and a second window open with only one tab. All settings are as described to save history, etc. After closing Firefox and later restarting, only the window with a single tab is restored. I've saved the session backup files in another location and manual copied and renamed them into the main profile folder but in each attempt, only the single tab window was restored, which is obviously not what I want. I know the 100+ tabs are in the file because of the filesize and because I've used https://www.jeffersonscher.com/ffu/scrounger.html to scrounge the URLs from the backup file. But the point is that Firefox is NOT extracting the data from this file and restoring the other window, which makes me suspect there is a bug or problem with session restore when more than one window is open at the time of shutdown.

So, despite selecting "Allow Audio and Video" in the Site Preferences, "AUTOPLAY BLOCKED" continues to show on a tab, and it only goes away once I access the tab. This particularly happens on Youtube media.

You may find attached to this question an image of my about:config settings.

What further can be done to fix this?

I've not been able to restore previous session of tabs and windows even though the box is checked in settings to restore prevous sessions. I've also tried all the troube shooting things. I really need this to work. I've been using firefox for many years. Please help me.

I played same Youtube video on Firefox and on Edge and Firefox uses way more data(I/O write bytes) I/O writes and I/O Read bytes than Edge. I added the screenshot.

pm: I ran Firefox in Safe mode and with Sessionstore disabled . Some say it is because of History, but I dont want to delete it.

Hello i've been having some problems on the latest software of yours i'm most of the time watching livestreams but from update v.100 of your software it became weird tab suspends after some in activity which is a problem for me

i found a solution through ABOUT:CONFIG and disabled these 3 for videos 1 - media.suspend-bkgnd-video.enabled 2 - media.resume-bkgnd-video-on-tabhover 3 - browser.tabs.unloadOnLowMemory

for videos and live streams it was good it didn't suspend but my problem now since update v.102 is that video plays but the CHAT stops and doesn't reload until i reopen firefox to the front of my programs

although it is runnning in the background and NOT MINIMIZED

even when the live stream has some lags and re-buffer it doesn't rebuffer or refresh the page to reconnect to the live stream until i force my firefox in front of my programs or games and again it was not minimized

if there is an option in the about:config to change this please tell me i'm already losing my mind as i missed one of my friends live stream because of that suspension

After some time of using Firefox, opening Google somehow "breaks". Let me explain:

Upon starting FF, all works fine. After some time, however, say 5-10 minutes, when I click the URL bar and try to google something, nothing happens. If a page is already open, the browser will stay on this page. If I opened a new tab, the URL will change to the relevant google URL, but the actual tab won't change at all. Dev-Console shows an empty HTML page. It's not even attempting to load the page really, the network panel shows a single empty GET request to google and nothing more. Even if I try to go to google.com directly, nothing changes. Meanwhile, all other sites I tried (youtube, amazon, reddit, what have you) still load and behave normally. It's as if FF goes completely brain dead as soon and only if google is involved.

I can "circumvent" this by going to some other google product, say google docs, and then selecting google search in the "google apps" menu in the upper right. But the only way to "fix" it is to restart the browser entirely.

This only happens on the laptop provided by my employer and only since today. On my personal laptop, running the same version of FF with the same account and addons it works just fine. It even happens in troubleshoot mode with no addons running. Even a system restart doesn't fully fix this issue.

I'm really at a loss here, any help would be appreciated.

While using Firefox all of my non-pinned tabs disappeared suddenly. The History -> Recently Closed Tabs item in the menu was greyed out. How can I get these tabs back? I have not closed the browser yet.

everytime I open firefox, it automatically switches tabs like these which require authentication to log in. even though their password is saved, I am still required to click in sign-in button.

Its really annoying that these kind of tabs get opened automatically, and then I have to switch back. Is there a way to disable this autoswitch or better, let the authentication happen automatically since the password is already stored ?

my BT email account used to work fine now I get the email list page up click to open an email which works fine but then when I click a link on the email instead of the link opening on a new tab it opens on the email page which means I have to keep pressing the back button before i used to just close the new open tab

Recently (last month or so) I noticed a new behavior: when I receive PDF attachments via Yahoo e-mail, if I open them using Adobe Acrobat DC reader, and print them, after printing the Yahoo e-mail tab closes. So I have full functionality -- can open the PDFs, print them, everything good -- but then I have to restart Yahoo e-mail. Big pain.

This behavior is occurring on all three of my PCs (two laptops and a desktop), all of which are running latest Windows 11, and latest Firefox, and latest Acrobat reader.

I thought I could try posting here about finding a reliable tab management extension for Firefox or a program so I can sync the open pinned tabs I have on my laptops and phone with each other so I can be sure to refer to certain tabs when I'm not home or something outside of trying different extensions to see if it'll be done. That way, I can know I can be able to refer to what I need to find rather than having to go home to look on my laptop if I'm not home or something. Thank you in advance if you reply to this.

When I download a file from a Yahoo email the tab with Yahoo closes. I can reopen the tab by going to History, Recently closed tabs, but I would prefer for the Yahoo tab to remain open.
