Running Firefox 133.0 on Ubuntu 20.04 desktop

Periodically, Firefox will freeze and send the message "Firefox must be restarted to continue". After restarting, Firefox takes a long time to recover. This morning, it took nearly 5 minutes to recover.

I am trying to fix Firefox performance issues. I recently changed to Firefox to escape forced ads on chrome and the lost support for the Ublock origin. But I am having difficulty performing tasks and pages That I used to be able to do on Chrome with no difficulty.

When I open multiple tabs at once the tabs freeze up when trying to load and already opened tabs freeze and anything streaming also freeze. It takes tons of time to load multiple tabs and even sometimes single tabs depending on the website. This never happened with Chrome and I understand Firefox is not as refined as Chrome and is far younger than Chrome is but I feel like it shouldn't be this bad. Is there any settings maybe or maybe settings/preferences in the config area area that might help with faster performance and increased multitasking ability in the Firefox browser?

I have tried

1. Updating Firefox - I am running the most up to date version 2. Updating Graphics Drivers- I am running the most up to date drivers(Updated yesterday 11/17/2024 3. Deleting Cache/History/Logs 4. removed or disables unneeded extensions that I don't use every day and only activate when I need them.

None of this has worked to increase performance.

P.S. I would also like to fix the problem where firefox is using too much RAM if possible.

Can anyone help me Please? And if possible please give as many solutions as you can find or know so I can implement them quickly.

Firefox has become exceedingly slow. I have used Firefox for the most part going back to the beginning save a 2 year stint when Mozilla fell behind and did not update the product in the early years after ver 4. However, the slowness of Firefox is so bad now that I may have to find or use another browser! It is literally that bad! This problem is recent as in the last 45 days as far as my individual needs. I have already gone through the troubleshooting list and made the modifications. That seemed to work for a day or two but the slowness of Firefox is progressively getting worse with each passing day.

The speed is like 3 minutes to 10 minutes when just trying to open a known and commonly used bookmark. Checked against Edge which came with Win 11 and Edge loads within a second or two. So, the problem is not hardware or internet connection. I have one of the fastest speeds on the planet with a true fiber optic connection as I am close to the backbone location in my city. We are talking 2.1gig down and 820MB up. Tested against two different speed tests. The problem is with Firefox specific. Mozilla needs to address this issue as it seems to be an ongoing problem across several IOS platforms.

Wikipedia render Thai fonts correctly. But it seems to render Latin texts and numbers in "TH Charm of AU" font for Thai articles, which I did not set anywhere in the browser (and my operating system). Ticking "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of your selections above" does not fix it either. But it renders fonts correctly in English version of the same article. (See the attached images).

Any ways to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Been using Firefox since the 90s and been on Mac since 2000s. This problem has been happening for about a year, throughout three macbooks (my old one, a temp one, and my new one) and multiple Firefox updates. I'm always updated and always clear cookies daily.

The failure to move bookmarks I can overcome by rebooting Firefox with a Forced Quit. If I only have to do this every few weeks, then no biggy reinserting all my passwords for all the different sites I use (and no, I don't want to use password managers, I don't trust them)

Today it happened within hours of Force Quitting Firefox, this is too much!!!

The only reason I didn't report this problem earlier is I simply expected an eventual newer version of Firefox to fix this bug.

Firefox 133.0

Normal behaviour: click-drag bookmark within bookmark menu pull-down to position where I want bookmark Failure behaviour: click-drag fails to move bookmark, until I reboot Firefox, then it works again

This is a problem I only started experiencing yesterday, but if I try to upload an image to a website (such as social media), and I double-click a shortcut for a folder, it attempts to upload the shortcut as the selected file, instead of opening the folder.

This is only a problem with firefox, as I tried doing this in another browser and I was able to open it as a folder normally. Any ideas on what could be causing this or how to fix this?

I believe there is a memory leak (or memory growth) bug in Firefox 133.0 on Windows 10. It's site-specific. I am trying to login to my account at https://www.ssa.gov/, and it never actually gets to the login prompt. Using the Windows task manager, I can see the RAM usage keeps increasing, until it nears the 12 GB installed RAM capacity, at which time I kill the firefox process. I'd say this is a bug in ssa.gov, except the problem does not occur with the google chrome browser.

To provide further detail, I go to site https://www.ssa.gov/, and click on the "sign in" button. That takes me to the page where you choose the login method (id.me or login.gov) and I choose "id.me". It takes me to the "you are leaving Social Security's website " message, which is still on the ssa.gov website. At that point, firefox memory usage starts to increase, as shown in task manager. The browser never advances to the next page, but main memory usage keeps going up. This goes on for about 30 seconds before I have to kill the firefox process.
