I've been searching for three days now for a solution that will work to restore my profile from a crashed windows-7 machine to my new windows-11. Nothing listed in any forum or help desk works as described. I used to be able to just rename the folder to the exact file name on the new PC, but windows 11 won't let me do anything. It always needs admin permissions and even after I activated the admin account and assigned a password, I still cannot copy to the folder or rename the folder. Every attempt to do this on W-11 fails. It shouldn't be that hard and I'm tired of wasting days playing with this. I have important bookmarks, passwords etc. I want restored, and I need help. Nobody wants to pick up a phone anymore to assist!

I have never used "sync" because I have multiple PCs and each used for different applications and yes some go back to W-7, the operating system that actually worked well. Each PC has Firefox and a distinct bookmark file.

I went to "about:profiles" and created a new profile thinking I could copy to the new folder, but when i switched profiles I couldn't get back to the original default! HELP!

This has happened several times in the last 4 months or so, it had never happened prior to that and I've used Firefox for years. It now occurs when I open Firefox after my computer has either been shutdown, or the computer does a restart. I am signed in to my Mozilla account.

I've tuned in to Firefox this morning to find that I'm kind of shut out, no access to my usual apps, and required to enact some difficult backing up etc. When I explore, it seems to relate to Windows 10 losing its backup from Microsoft. But I'm running Windows 11, not 10. What's going on? Is this legitimate? If so, why is it complicated and why wasn't it forewarned (by Firefox)?

I just updated to the latest version of Mozilla FireFox and my bookmarks dissappeard.

All are gone, I wonder how I can get them back?

I used to have an account with everything on it

I restarted my computer and now I cant access anything from my old account. I used my same email account as before. what do I do I lost eveything

My wife's old Windows 10 HP laptop quit working last week do to some Operating System failure while it was trying to do an update. It finally did a reboot and now it is useless, at least as it is! It will NOT complete the boot process after trying all of the options offered. All that I am able to is exit out of Windows to a "DOS prompt." I am able to get to the Mozilla Firefox folder and others contain within. The new Windows 11 laptop I bought her is working fine with a fresh Firefox browser installed about a week ago. What she wants is her web links, settings and saved passwords "copied" from the old laptop and installed on the new one! We have no idea how many there are to retrieve! I'm hoping that there might only be one folder that I can copy via "command line" prompt to a USB drive and move the file(s) to the new laptop the same way. Can anyone tell me what I need to know? This morning Firefox stopped loading new tabs, which usually means it is due for an update and restart. On my work computer, updates are managed by my organization, so I cannot prompt it to check for updates directly, but rather can just restart the application and it updates once closed. Today when I closed the window then clicked the shortcut to reopen, it notified me the exe file had been removed and prompted me to open the Windows store and reinstall, which I did. I have no indication as to why it uninstalled. All of my bookmarks and other history appear to have been wiped.

I have been trying on the support site to see if this data is recoverable, but nothing has panned out so far.

I have used Firefox as my primary browser for almost twenty years and frequently encourage friends and family to use it if they don't already. I have never experienced anything like this before. I am hopeful somebody will be able to assist me where reading through support center options hasn't yet, but if this is not resolvable, I'm done- the crash helpfully wiped everything clean, after all.

Any suggestions or response is greatly appreciated. Best, Z

Maybe that's at the root of the problem I'm constantly having with my history & bookmarks being unavailable every time Windows updates? The strange thing is that this page shows that Firefox does know I'm using 11.

I've already posed the question I have about resolving that matter. Hope this helps someone figure out the answer. Thanks to whoever tries!

Firefox updated automatically overnight, all bookmarks vanished. Toolbar bookmarks, gone. History information disappeared two weeks ago. Library box is now gone, too! Windows 11. Firefox version 147.0.3 64-bit

Tried Old Firefox Data and I don't think it's there. I don't see it in about:profiles. I used it yesterday and windows seemed to refresh overnight. When I opened firefox this morning, an old profile came up (as it does sometimes). Usually when this happens, two profiles open and I just close the old one that I don't use. But this time only the old one opened. PLEASE HELP!!!

When Firefox updated to 147.0.3, it shredded Quick Dial and I am using the latest version.. Less than half of my tabs still exist, and many of the "everyday" tabs - banking, utilities, online purchasing, etc, - are simply gone. Unless there is a solution, and I have contacted the developer with no success, I will no longer be a Firefox user. Beyond this issue, Firefox has been increasing difficult to use for purchases (big examples, Rock Auto, PayPal) and have had to switch browsers too many times to complete purchases DESPITE making exceptions for these websites in Settings. This situation is the proverbial "last straw". Solution or I'm out. Screenshot attached would have originally shown A FULL PAGE OF TABS.

Firefox recently started asking for a profile when I tried opening a link from email but, not having a profile, I ignored it. If I copied the link into my firefox browser (already open) I could see the link contents, i.e. page(s) opened. Since then I have closed Firefox and now get asked about a profile and have tried using original and creating a new one. We have, unfortunately, reinstalled firefox so this is now more complex. At present, whether I login to Mozilla account or not, my passwords, history etc are no longer on my laptop, despite supposedly being connected. Firefox on my phone is currently the only source of my passwords etc, which is not good as I cannot export from there!

Can I restore this info somehow? We've tried a few suggestions found on the web, but no good yet.

Has something changed recently? My husband got the same profile request on opening Firefox but it worked when he selected use original/default profile.

After updating to Firefox 147.0.3 all of my browser history (along with open tabs at the time of updating) is lost. I just updated to Windows 11 workstations (plus a couple of older Windows 10 workstations) to the current (Feb 2026) updates too. However the history data was lost before the Windows updates. I noticed that with the previous update of Firefox that saved login information was also lost. Who is doing your program updates, a chimp?

In the past when an update was done the browser would open back up with all of the previous versions session tabs in tact. But not now.

I've lost several tabs of research that was being done. Based on what has been happening, I will HAVE to change to some other browser. This is a shame as I've been a loyal Firefox user since day one. Good bye Mozilla and Firefox.
