This is not so much a question, as an answer that some people desperately need.

Ever since Version 34, Firefox has done a superb job of restoring the tabs that the user has created, either on restarting Firefox (if that option is chosen) or on request.

The details of how to restore tabs are covered in Firefox's basic help online, and even how to deal with several crashes in a row (such as in an addon) ruin the normal backup file are also well explained.

However, today I accidentally pressed Alt+F4 twice on my poorly-designed keyboard and closed my main window, with 93 tabs, and another Firefox window as well. I'm not sure this is exactly what happened, but I lost all 93 of my tabs.

I read many of the postings in which people give various suggestions, but none worked. Every time I restored a version of the sessionstore.js file I saw the same lonely empty tab. Restoring prefs.js did nothing, and neither did making changes in the internal configuration constants.

I tried refreshing/resetting Firefox (which preserves bookmarks), but I still couldn't restore the tabs. It was now clear that the problem was in sessionstore.js (and all its backups) for sure.

I'm writing this for people who must restore their windows or tabs, and don't mind getting technical about it. That was my situation.

The solution was to realize that the sessionstore.js file contains JSON code, which is an efficient way to represent integers and strings arranged in a tree structure.

I figured there must be a JSON editor somewhere, and it turns out there is a great one available online, at www.jsoneditoronline.org . It can read a file on your computer, edit it, then save it back on your computer.

As soon as I viewed sessionstore.js in the editor, it was obvious how easy this was going to be. The top level of the tree is understandable. I simply grabbed the data representing the window with 93 tabs, and dragged it from the list of closed Firefox windows to the list of open windows. This automatically moved the history of each tab, and even the strings entered into forms.

After copying sessionstore.js back to the Firefox profile, I started Firefox one more time. The playing of Pandora signalled that my tabs were back and functioning once again.

Now, editing JSON code is not something that everyone is ready for. And your problem might not be reflected in the JSON tree so simply. But, for technical-minded people who don't want to lose their tabs or windows to a mistake or a crash, this technique can be just what's needed when everything else fails.

Hello,

After I installed a piece of hardware which increased the length/strength of my wireless connection, and turned on my computer the next day, I loaded both Internet Explorer 11 and Mozilla Firefox, but both would not load webpages with a "http://" before the "www."; they would only load webpages with a "https://" before the "www.". This problem has persistently occurred despite me resetting both browsers to factory settings. I have looked at previous solutions to this problem, but none of them seem to work (I tried resetting my cookies and that didn't work, as well as made sure that cookies on both browsers were enabled, and that didn't work either), for me at least.

I would really appreciate it if you could give me a speedy solution to this problem as this problem affects my most commonly used webpages.

Thanks and Kind Regards.

P.S. My internet does work and I tried troubleshooting it, but no problems popped up with it.

I am running Firefox 37.02, Windows 7. I also have shockwave flash addons V17.0.0.134 & V18.0.0.95. The V18 version is beta and was downloaded from Adobe in attempts to resolve this on-going problem. It did not solve it. Through trial and error, I have determined that when I disable the addons mentioned above (note; disabling one seems to disable the other) I am able to get website videos to play (for example: videos on golfchannel.com) but not another (example: www.nbcphiladelphia.com). Conversely, if the addons are enabled, the videos on the www.nbcphiladelphia.com site work but those of the golfchannel.com do not. By "do not" I mean that the preceding commercial video plays but the main subject matter video that is to run afterwards does not. I get a black screen and the commercial video recycles again and again. I contacted the support group at golfchannel.com who said they were not aware of any problems. They suggested I use the Chrome browser which is what they use without problems.

After years of trouble-free use I'm now having problems with Firefox. It is crashing regularly, every time I use it, started about a week or so ago. As far as I know, nothing has changed on my laptop. I've tried starting in safe mode, and I've tried refreshing but nothing has so far worked. I'm attaching the latest of a succession of daily crash reports. Any assistance would be very much appreciated, thank you.

Using firefox desktop for mac. Recently it stopped saving my history. Forward and back buttons still work, typing something in the address window will make it pull up places I've visited in the past, but only ones I visited two or three weeks ago. Nothing recent. "Show all history" brings up the window, but there is nothing in it."

Private browsing is not enabled. I have enabled "remember my browsing and download history."

Another answer suggested I might have an anti virus or something that is disabling history. I looked, but I don't have anything doing that. Safari and Chrome are both saving their histories normally.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

How can I make the playback buttons of YouTube and other plug-ins bigger since they are so tiny in Firefox? I tried some suggestions that dealt with entering "about:config" in a fresh browser, but to no avail. I also downloaded an add-on called "Theme Font & Size Changer", but that didn't work either. So, I am reaching out here as that was a suggestion that another user here offered.

I have an old Safari browser version as well as the latest Firefox for my Mac OS 10.6.8 I have set Safari Version 5.1.10 (6534.59.10) to use Firefox 37.0.2 as my default browser. Apple no longer supports OS 10.6.8 with the latest Safari browser.

I have set Firefox to Always check if firefox is your default browser.

In the Firefox 37.0.2 General tab, it says "Firefox is currently your default browser". When I shut down and restart, my Mac always opens up using Safari. What must I do to get it to open up in Firefox?

I use both Firefox and Chrome as my browser. Recently, Twitter has added a comment box when you Retweet a message but I only see this additional comments box when I access Twitter via Chrome. If I use Firefox I can only Retweet the original message. I have disabled all add-ons in case any of them is the cause but nothing has changed as far as Retweeting is concerned. I would like to add comments to Retweets in the final days of our election campaign, please help me stir it up.

Firefox Sync on my laptop does not work when my laptop is connected to my home network, but e.g. if I'm at my office.

The internet connection at my home is fine, I can surf the web with that very Firefox on both IPv4 and IPv6, DNS etc. is also working. Logging in to accounts.firefox.com also works, as does connecting Firefox to the Sync account. Only the process of syncing itself fails. On my desktop computer at home, I have exactly the same problems. When I open https://sync-209-us-west-2.sync.services.mozilla.com/ in a browser tab, I see a confirmation message that sync runs on that server, so apparently the network path between my computer and that server is free.

Upon investigation with Wireshark, I see the successful TLS handshake, then some packets from the client that are not answered and after some time the server closes the connection (Encrypted Alert). Apparently, no content is transferred between client and server. I attach a screenshot of how Wireshark sees the conversation between server and client (The image upload here didn't work so I put it on the web: http://ibin.co/1zXABHKdj5mA).

To exclude a possible misconfiguration or bad add-on, I created a clean new Firefox profile and connected it to my Firefox account, but this shows exactly the same problems.

Fun fact: Firefox on my Android phone does sync in my home network.

Below, I will link two log files, one successful sync (office network) and one failed sync (home network): Sync @ office: http://pastebin.com/rZmfrbdL Sync @ home: http://pastebin.com/a3KUCevJ

I use autocad and sketchup all day everyday. If I'm looking at something in firefox and then move my mouse back to either of these programmes and go to zoom or pan with my mouse wheel, it causes both to zoom way out or way in too fast.

I don't think it's a mouse issue unless firefox messes with logitech setpoint. I installed chrome to see if it does the same thing and it doesn't. For this reason alone, I may stay with chrome unless there is some means of a fix for this. I'd prefer to stay with firefox as I've been using it for ages.

Trying to use webrtc on either Firefox Hello or another website making use of webrtc features (such as https://tokbox.com/opentok/quick-start/demo.html) for communication will make Firefox show the dropdown to select a microphone and authorize it's use. The connection is established just fine, I can hear other people talk (or myself if I connect with another browser), but my own microphone is not picked up. I am very confident that my windows settings as well as those in driver's application are correct, but I'm happy to try aynthing out.

I'm thankful for any help you can provide.
