FF would restart normally one time. Update data files were always replaced and the update on every startup continued - over and over and over. Tried refreshing FF- same thing. I am using Linux Mint 6.0.3.1 , and my Mozilla Firefox version is 77.0.1 . My Firefox will not update, neither automatically nor when prompted. When I go to all the pages for downloading and installing the newest Firefox, I am always able to download a package, which appears as a folder labeled " firefox-89.0.2.tar.bz2 " but then I cannot install it, it just appears as a folder full of files that will not run. I have tried following the command lines in the terminal that these pages claim will make the new version run, but I always just get a response like "no such command" or "no file exists." Shouldn't there be some relatively simple and reliable path to just get firefox 89 onto my computer?

Hi there, I'm having trouble opening firefox that suddenly didn't open after I've used it as usual. When I've closed it, I've put the macbook on sleep mode and then reopen it after 10 minutes and tried to open firefox as always. It didn't. I'm trying to figure it out and I've followed all the possible paths on Mozzilla's support and others blogs, but none of them worked out. I've tried also to uninstall and re install firefox from scratch, but nothing happens: I still get the message. At this point I don't care if I need a fresh start, I have a bookmark's backups so, how can I really uninstall Firefox and install it from the beginning? Is there a hidden folder I'm missing? Thank you in advance

I just used pacman to update to the latest Firefox, but the tab crashed each time I open a new web page ( I can open settings, about:xxx and etc... ). I tried Troubleshoot Firefox crashes and it did not crash in troubleshoot mode. Then I tried extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-extensions-themes-to-fix-problems but non of these options solved the problem. I disabled all extensions, themes and hardware acceleration, and it reported the same error.

I was switching my browser from Brave, a chrome based browser, back to Firefox because Brave doesn't can't run some of the stuff my uni learning management system (LMS). I tried importing my browser bookmarks and passwords to Firefox but the importing feature on Firefox doesn't show Brave as one of the browsers it can take the data from. I want to know if there's anyway I can fix this or if there's no hope for importing data from chromium browsers to Firefox.

I am testing FF91esr for deployment later this year. Having a lot of grief with it.

For context; On most of our PCs the profile folder is NOT in the %APPDATA% folder. It lives on a different drive, typically drive F:\

This allows us a lot of freedom to restore a users C:\ drive without messing up the Firefox profile, or losing recent information, for example. We do the same for Thunderbird and several other applications.

The profile.ini file does live in its default location and points to the relavant folder path=F:\Users\<username>\profiles\<profilename> IsRelative=0

We backup a users PC with a comprehensive script which copies the profile.ini and Profiles folder. The group policy is also backed up, and in that policy we have set to use legacy profiles.

When we build a new PC for a user we restore those backups in the hope that the user will take up where they left off. For example, their browser history will be at the point is was when they left the PC.

The whole process is pretty automated. However, with FF91esr I cannot get it to use the folder we backed up. It ignores what's in the profiles.ini file and creates a new profile in the default location, set's it as default and of course sets IsRelative=1.

I tried several combinations of things to try to stop this, but in the end the ONLY way I could get it to use the restored profile was to go to about:profiles, create a new profile, point it to the folder where the restored profile is located, restart using the new browser, then via about:profiles, delete the bogus profile (of course having set the restored profile as default).

I'm not going to sit at 250 PCs doing that. It's crazy.

How can I get FF to use the restored profile folder and stop it endlessly creating new profile folders?

So far I've only tested with clean installs of FF91esr, so this is not an issue with different versions of profiles. But I am concerned over what's going to happen when I update Firefox on a PC...

I've had Firefox running on this PC for a couple of years and started running into problems with it. I've tried refreshing, reinstalling, restoring the machine back to prior system restore points, nothing seems to work. It all seems to revolve around the ntdll.dll. I've included some event viewer info and the content of Report.wer.

It seems Firefox has been banned from this machine.

Let me know if there is anything else I should provide.

Thanks.

I was using one of the old Firefox ESR versions (can't remember exactly which) because I was still on an old Mac OS version, 10.9 to be more specific.

I recently updated to macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and as a result, as soon as I opened Firefox, I went to check if it would update on its own and it did. It updated to version 91.6.0 esr. After this update, something weird happened: the browser won't load any page.

I checked, it's not an internet connection, because other browsers are working normally. It won't load any extensions either. So I want to fix this issue with an update.

The question is this: I remember installing what was called Firefox Quantum. As of now, the name on the about section is just Firefox Browser, maybe because of the updates. • Can I install the latest "regular" Firefox 97.0 on top of the this old installation, just using a standalone dmg file? • Will this installation preserve everything that's already in the browser? By everything I mean bookmarks, extensions, history, cookies, etc.

It seems to me that the automatic updater isn't installing version 97.0 on its own because it's coming from the ESR versions. So it's stopped at 91.6.0 esr.

Thanks in advance

I am using Firefox-ESR on my Kali linux distro. I am unable to load any webpages on Firefox but other browsers can load. I tried all the steps like clearing every history, cache, etc. I have even reinstalled several times but it is only loads for 2-3 seconds and shows a white blank page and nothing else. I have gone through your tutorial of "Firefox can't load but other browsers can" but it is not helping. There is no problem of proxy either.

Edit Update : I need the Firefox-ESR installed as default. I downloaded new version Firefox-ESR=78.11.0esr from Firefox download page and it loads webpages. But the latest Firefox downloaded from apt is Firefox-ESR=78.10.0esr. I cannot update Firefox as new downloaded version has executable file name as 'firefox' but default has executable file as 'firefox-esr' in '/usr/lib'. I have two different versions of Firefox-ESR installed now because of the installation procedure given in Firefox install tutorial page. I am also not able to find the new version browser in 'x-www-browser' in 'update-alternatives' to set it as default. I want the Firefox installed with all features as default one. I think I have not installed new version of Firefox-ESR correctly. I just want to update Firefox but not to install another version of it. Thank you.

(SECOND occurrence of this problem; not sure HOW previous instance resolved - my short-term memory ISN'T the best at present!)

Have taken all recommended steps short of completely refreshing (renamed a file titled 'config.json.old' as it was the ONLY one with a 'json' filepath suffix) because I don't want to have to relocate (another) existing session / configured profile by trial & error if avoidable - 'cookies' were removed along with history / cache cleared; reset / deleted related browser registry entries as directed, activated ' Troubleshooting / Safe Mode' contingency and STILL can't download anything (additionally, tried to do so with and without limited-time Malwarebytes web protections).....want to CONTINUE using Version 95 because by ALL indications and from what I'm seeing in Comments, my instincts about newer ones - were sound, WELL-informed.....please advise ASAP? Thanks!

Hi, volunteers!

About an every every hour or two, Firefox shows a compelled "Restart required" page with a "Firefox has just been updated in the background" message, which yet absolutely sure has nothing to do with disabled automatic updates.

These and pyllyukko's user.js preferences have been set:

  • browser.cache.disk.enable;false
  • browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl;false
  • browser.cache.memory.capacity;5000000 # -1
  • browser.cache.memory.enable;true

The page is shown either hard or solid state drive is used with 8 GB RAM on board, `free -h` shows more than enough. "Storage disk location" value for `memory` and `disk` (except `appcache`) from the `about:cache` page is "none, only stored in memory".

Appreciate your time and efforts, this message haunts me no matter what for so long.

All of a sudden Firefox has ceased to react when I'm trying to download a file/save a page. When I click Cmd+S or File → Save page as…, nothing happens. When I try to open an upload dialogue, a solid gray window appears, and that's it. Uploading files through drag&drop interface works fine.

The problem seemingly appeared after migrating from a Mac Mini to a Macbook Air (both M1). I've already tried to restart the laptop and refresh Firefox — to no avail.

Is there anything else I could try to do?

Over the last couple of days we are seeing instances of Firefox just disappearing from Windows 10 and just today from a Windows 7 pc. When I say disappears, the desktop shortcut becomes dead, click on it and a prompt to search for firefox.exe comes up. Checking Add / Remove programs shows Firefox to be installed. Checking C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox reveals empty folders with the exception of a couple of text files. Trying to reinstall the Firefox app, we are prompted with a message that Firefox.exe can't be found, and there is a button to browse for it. The only solution we have found for this is to copy the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder from a working pc, and we just received a call from a user we did this for telling us that it is gone again. Any ideas?

Thanks.....

We have checked for viruses.
