Hi, i copied my Thunderbird (windows 10 Prof)) to a new Notebook (windows 11 Prof) by overrighting the Standard-Profilfolders (in ROAMING and LOCAL) of the new Installation with the Folders of the old Installation (both are Version 146.0.1 but old is 32-Bit and new is 64-Bit) I use more than 2 accounts, and in some accounts, I created subfolders in the 'In' folder to preselect the emails by rules after they arrive Result is: alls Subfolders are missing and some accounts' 'In' Folder are empty. The Account settings seems to be corrct, means i can load new EMails even if the IN-Folder is empty. But i miss the exosting EMails there and the Subfolders content.

I've been using Thunderbird for years under windows 7 and keep my data on a separate drive. Is it possible to migrate or move the whole program and data base into Linux at a later date? I haven't used Linux yet, but need to know if it's possible to successfully make the move before I jump. Thank you.

I didn't find anything quite like this in the forums.

Any user views on Betterbird over TB. The developer has done a great job and has one thing I do like and that is the ability to colour the highlighted email account rather than just the envelope icon. Experiences are appreciated so I can make the informed decision on which to use. Should I decide to use it how does one just port TB and its settings over to Betterbird.?

Thanks for views.

My bookmarks in Chrome do not import into Firefox. I've Tried importing right from the Chrome browser and importing with an HTML file. No success with my bookmarks. I was able to import an extension, but I deleted it as that isn't my focus. I've checked the HTML file and it does have content (viewed in NotePad). I've looked in all the Bookmark options, but nothing imported there. I paused my NordVPN, no change. I've rebooted my desktop nothing changed. I'm running the latest updated version of Win 11.

Please advise.

I am trying to upgrade from 128 esr version to the new 139 version. I tried several ways to transfer data from the old version to the new version - I tried to export and import a the Thunderbird zip file. I also tried to open profile manager and creating a new profile that refers to a copy from my old version. Nothing has worked. In the old Thunderbird 128 version, if I select Help and Troubleshooting Information and then Open Folder next to the Profile Folder I get an error in Thunderbird that it can’t find my profile. I get the same error message when I go to Tools, export and select "open profile folder." This in spite of the fact that the old version continues to correctly display my contacts, tasks and events

After several hours of this, I finally decided to download version 139 using the standard Mozilla set up even though my Thunderbird 128 version is located someplace else. So, at this time I have two working versions of thunderbird on my computer – the old 128 version with all my data and the new 139 version with no data.

I think I need help figuring out which Profile has my contact, calendar and task data. Then I need help getting it to the new version.

Thanks

Luke

"Open Directory" in Profile Directory with Flatpak install goes nowhere after new install to Linux (trying to move profile to new laptop) (bug1625111)

Hi,

I'm trying to move Thunderbird from my Windows 10 laptop to one where I just installed Linux (Zorin Pro 17.3). I followed the instructions here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

I installed Thunderbird 140.4.0 esr, which is the latest version. Both laptops now have that version installed.

But when I open TB on the Linux computer, and close the Account Setup window, and go to the Troubleshooting screen, next to "Profile Directory" it says "Open Directory", but when I click on that, nothing happens. So how can I paste my TB profile? Do I have to start a new profile first, and then copy over that?

I installed TB from the "Software" area, which I believe is a Flatpak. I'm very new to Linux, so just fumbling around here. There were 3 options of Thunderbird. I installed the one that had the most information and seemed most up to date. That was confusing.

I would LOVE some help on this.

Thanks!

Hi, Not sure where to begin. Had issues w/mouse and decided to reimage. Copied all files from C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird. Now have no msgfilteres, folders in Local Folders, or an Address Book.

I used info from https://windowsloop.com/backup-restore-thunderbird/. Was this wrong? Where did I mess up?

Thanks

Several Months ago I bought a new W11 HP laptop and successfully followed the following procedure provided by David to get my TB profile/data and all files and folders onto this new computer. Here is the link for moving a profile in Windows when installed in default location:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

here is the info in brief steps:

 1. ensure thunderbird is NOT running on old machine
  2. enter %appdata% in search window on task bar and press Enter key
3.this should open windows file explorer in Appdata\roaming folder
  4. highlight the Thunderbird folder and copy to external media
  5. ensure thunderbird is installed on second computer and NOT running
  6. enter %appdata% in search window on task bar and press Enter key
7.you should be in Appdata\roaming folder , copy&paste the exported Thunderbird folder there. This may prompt to overwrite an existing folder of same name. allow it
  8. start Thunderbird and all should be there

There were a few hiccups but it works great! I now want to make sure I am creating a back up copy to save on a flash drive just in case something happens. I followed steps 1-3 above and that should be my back up..RIGHT? I did that and saved it in a folder labeled TB back up Profile and a date. My old was was to just back up the TB profile folder alone but I think this one saves everything. (accounts, folders, Local etc. Have I done it right???

I'm sure this is a really dumb question but I'm all set to unzip my profile backup into new machine. I see it named in the Quick Access window, but a double click on it brings an error message that I have to unzip it first. Clearly I'm learning both my laptop and win 11 at the same time, and I don't know where/how to unzip it. I'm confused, I hope my question isn't. Can anyone talk me thru getting it unzipped so I can import it into Tbird in new machine? Thanks, Stacy

I transferred content via a Time machine backup of my old macBookPro (Ventura 13.6) to my new macBookPro (Sequoia 15.6.1). The Thunderbird folder is identical on both computers and contains two profiles: a newer 9389qbc0.defalut-release and an older r13n4n5e.default. The former presumably is active on my old computer and is the one I want to view/use on the new computer. However, the older version appears on my new computer. How do I get Thunderbird on the new computer to recognize and load the newer profile? Thanks much for any assistance!

For some years I have transferred the current Thunderbird data profiles from a desktop computer to a laptop once a year when traveling. When returning home six months later I have been able to delete the old data profiles in the desktop and transfer the 'current data' from the laptop over. This system has worked for some years however after recently upgrading the laptop to the latest version (140.2.1esr) and installing the latest version on the desktop (both 140.2.1esr) the transfer of data fails. The program identifies the data on the laptop as an "old program". Could someone point me in the right direction and advise where I am going wrong at the moment. Thanks in anticipation , Bruce
