This extension places search icons on alost ever picture that is show in most every website. Very annoying and I want it gone forever. I go to the addon icon and click on disable or remove and restart and the next tie I go into firefox, the damn thing is back. I want it gone or firefox will be gone.

Hello,

When this kind of thing happens it normally means that there is another piece of software running on your PC that is reinstalling the add-on each time you remove it. You need to get rid of that application (malware) first.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

I've had particular success with hitman pro and malwarebytes.

Also run a full scan with your existing antivirus software.

I also suggest doing the following:

  • Look through your list of windows installed programs and uninstall any that you think might be related.
  • Look at your windows startup applications and block any from booting that you don't want or you think might be related.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Once the malware causing the problem has been removed it will stop being able to influence Firefox. However the settings that it has modified in Firefox may still be unchanged. If they are then I suggest doing a Firefox reset which will put all your settings back to defaults. Please note that although your history and bookmarks will be saved you will need to reinstall your add-ons.

There is also an article describing removal instructions for safe saver here: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/safe-saver-virus-removal/

Please note that I am not recommending that specific article. As with any instructions found on the web, proceed with caution and make sure you are confident that the instructions are reputable.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

PS - I notice that you are using Firefox v24. To get the latest security updates I suggest updating to the latest version (25). See here: Update Firefox to the latest release

I have this problem too. I found it on the processes list, so I ended that process. But it comes back after I re-open my browsers. My friend give me this passage: http://computervirusremovalcenter.blogspot.com/2014/01/safesaver-ads-pop-ups-how-to-remove.html, but I cannot understand those files, I don't know what are those things at all. Is there anyone who can help figure out those files?

Hi Brynjar, did you try the link earlier in this thread?

I think it is much easier to follow and less interested in selling you phone support services. (Note that I don't know whether the "Junkware Removal Tool" in the second part of step 3 is a good product or not.)
