I like to have my Do Not Track header set to "do not track." However, Firefox resets this header to "Do not tell sites anything about my tracking preferences" every time I close the Preferences window. There is no "save" button, so I assume that settings are automatically saved.

Chosen solution

You can check the privacy.donottrackheader.* pref(s) on the about:config page.

  • privacy.donottrackheader.enabled (true)
  • privacy.donottrackheader.value (1)

Still, it is absolutely ridiculous that such a bug would still be present in the release build (Firefox 21 is, as of 5/14/13, in release. Mozilla really needs to step up its game.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise then see:

Do-not-track is now a three state setting and is controlled by two prefs: one to enable/disable the DNT header and another to determine its value.

  • "Do not tell sites anything about my tracking preferences."
  • "Tell sites that I want to be tracked." (DNT=0)
  • "Tell sites that I do not want to be tracked." (DNT=1)
