What is happening when going to a website (Snopes photo submit) in AOL.com and I get 449 tabs instead?

Machinery and software: MacBook Pro 15" using OS 10.6.8, cable network on wi-fi, In Firefox 14.0.1 working from aol.com home page. I have set a new tab (home page is first tab) and logged onto Snopes.com, gone to the web page that references "submit a rumor" and have just clicked on the link that would allow me to submit a photograph. Initially I get a blank page and then hundreds of tabs are created, but I don't get to the Snopes photo submission page. This happened once previously, with a different web site (not from Snopes), but I cannot recall that site since it was some time ago.

You get that problem if you select the Firefox program to handle a file if you get an "open with" dialog.

Try to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox Profile Folder to reset all file actions if you can't fix it.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
