I've been looking for a real reason that it fails under Linux. Have done quite a few searches and wasted quite a bit of time and find this support forum - particularly its search feature - not helpful on this point. Can't really search for a phrase (tried both single and double quotes)- its clearly searching for words in whatever order.

After much digging - I keep wondering if there is an alternative to the aus3.mozilla.org server - the location of the update server is not really explained anywhere.

I've been seeing this on my system and based on a similar issue in Linux was able to figure it out.

I have two accounts on my Mac - a personal and a work account. Since I installed firefox originally on my personal account, everytime I start firefox on my work account it stalls as the updater doesn't have permissions. Once I logged into my personal account and ran the updater, it worked just fine.

Interesting to note though - I haven't seen this issue with my other Mac apps.

If there is an issue with update or permissions the better, quickest and safest way is to download and install firefox:

1. Download a copy of the latest firefox from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html

2. Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean install.

3. Install the version that you have downloaded.

Do not select to remove your personal data, your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks or other personal data.
