I am using Firefox 11.0 in Spanish. I would like to change this to English. Can I do this without uninstalling my browser? I don't want to lose my bookmarks and settings.

Thank you for your help.

Chosen solution

I've never tried that myself.

This thread has information on how to switch the language to English, and also about an add-on to switch between two languages: How do I change the browser language in Firefox 4?.

Before making any changes, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See Backing up your information. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)

Hopefully someone with more experience will offer more tips.

It is best to uninstall the current Firefox version to remove the Spanish language pack and install the en-US (or en-GB) version instead.

You can find the latest Firefox release in all languages and for all Operating Systems here:

Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data because all profile folders will be removed.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

@Jscher2000 Thanks for your quick response. I have just backed up my FF profile and I am going to uninstall my current browser now and reinstall the English version.

I just installed the GB English version, and I didn't even have to use my backed up data. Probably because I unchecked the "delete personal data" option in the uninstall manager.

Be aware that the en-GB version doesn't come with a spell check dictionary, so you need to install an English dictionary yourself if you currently do not one.

You can look here for dictionaries:

To be honest, on my desktop pc I use the Dutch version of Firefox and I have switched off the spell check there, cause I found it a bit annoying. But thanks for the tip.
