When I try to download or view finacial statements on line I get a blank new tab and a URL that says about blank. How can I correct this. I can go to Safari and get what I need.

I have this problem with several sites when I click on to see a statement or something that takes me to a new tab. I get a new tab that is named blank and the URL says about blank. Sites like Merril Lynch, Bank America, Progressive insurance and so on. I have downloaded the new version of Adobe Flash Player but Firefox says I have an outdated version.
