See above. The system does not let me choose which version to download.

Chosen solution

You could try downloading on another computer whether it uses Windows, Linux or Mac and then use a usb flash drive to transfer to OSX computer using Wine.

It should be no problem, you will normally be offered a version for your OS.

That is the problem. I don't want the version for my OS (OS X 10.6). I want to use it in a Windows VM but neither of these sites gives a choice. They automatically detect a Mac and only let me download that version.

On the pages that John99 has posted, your can click on the link "other systems and languages" which lead to this page
http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
On this page you can download for all systems.

When I click on the Windows download and opt to save the file, it just saves a small (4 KB) file that it labels as "Kind: WinwLib," and when I click on the file, it opens an xterm window and Wine Helper.

On http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html the en-US version for Windows should be a 13.4 MB sized Firefox Setup 7.0.1.exe.

I know that but for some reason, it won't download. I assume it's something in my setup but I have no idea what.

Try the index site. Pick the operating system and go from there.

No difference.

When you try to download the Firefox Setup 7.0.1.exe are you on OSX or on Wine?

You could try downloading that file using Safari if Firefox will not do it correctly.

James,

You do not need to use Wine, which is a Linux Windows emulator, to transfer files from a USB flash stick. If the flash stick is formatted as FAT32, it can be read and written by Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

finitarry, you misread me and this thread as he is using Windows on MAC OSX probably by way of options like CrossOver. I was just referring to wine as in the Mac computer he is running Windows on as it was giving Wine errors on firefox setup download.

I know what Wine is as I primarily use Linux myself and dual boot with Windows XP also on this box.
