links in e-mails create error message

I use Outlook 2007 and Firefox 7+. Clicking on an link to a web site in an e-mail works, but first generates an error message. "general failure" URL (web page address). Doing the same thing with IE 9 generates no error message. (Asus laptop with Windows 7 64 bit.)
