Recently i accidently begain downloading some unwanted addons---but I canceled the download before it was finished and quickly removed the programs by uninstalling them from the program files. Firefox was working quite alright at the time, but later on it started becoming less and less responsive. I did some cleanups (clearing cache, etc) and ran a viruse scan. Didn't make a difference. Eventually it started happening just as I open up a firefox browser--becoming non responsive. The first two time, disconnecting and reconnecting to my int connection fixed it. But now that doesn't work and even after uninstalling and reinstalling firefox , it's nonresponsive. I should have version 6.0.2 Lastly, there's no way I can run firefox in safe mode because as soon as I open the browser it's non-responsive, meaning I can't even access any of the tool bars.

Chosen solution

-> Close Firefox

  • click Firefox button and click Exit
  • OR press CTRL + SHIFT + ESC keys to open Task Manager -> Processes tab -> right-click firefox.exe and click End Process Tree -> close Task Manager

-> Start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down SHIFT key while starting Firefox

  • As an alternative method, use Win + R key combination and enter one of the following in the Windows Run box:
    • firefox -safe-mode
    • "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode
    • "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode

-> Firefox Safe Mode window will appear -> DON'T SELECT ANY OPTIONS, just click Continue in Safe Mode

Check and tell if its working while you are using Firefox Safe Mode.

The alternative method worked, thanks. I didn't select any options and it does work in safe mode.. Is this a permanent solution though?

Also I believe it was a faulty extension that was making firefox unstable.
