I followed the back/restore bookmarks procedure in Firefox Help for transferring bookmarks from one computer to another and get a Firefox popup message that reads "Unsupported file type" when I try to restore to the other computer, so what is going on?

I followed the Firefox Help procedure for transferring bookmarks from my laptop to a new computer. I first manually created a backup file on my laptop using Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks/Import and Backup/Backup. I next copied the backup file to a portable hard drive and from there to the desktop of my new computer. Using the same Firefox procedure, I used Restore and selected the backup file. I get a Firefox popup message that reads "Unsupported file type." Why doesn't this work? What do I need to do to get my laptop bookmarks imported into Firefox on my new computer? Both computers are running Windows 7 and have Firefox 6. Thanks.
