How to uninstall "Premiumplay Codec-C"

How to uninstall "Premiumplay Codec-C"

Chosen solution

When I downloaded Codec-C I did not install any of the add-ons that they try to trick you into downloading. I ran MalwareBytes and AVG after downloading and before removal. They detected no virus, spyware, malware, or adware. So, I am not sure that Codec-C is harmful. But, I went ahead and removed it to be on the safe side. Crossrider Web Apps is the name of the program that needs to be removed in program files. I used Ccleaner to remove it and to repair the registry. Ccleaner is a free download from C-net. Also, remember to delete the Install Wizard from whatever folder you saved it in. Finally, to watch movies on VeeHD without getting the prompt to download Codec-C you just need to log in on VeeHD. If you do not have an account to log into then register and create one. It is free. Hope all of this info helps you. Safe surfing!

First, CCleaner is NOT a CNet product! The good people at Piriform made it and make it freely available to the public (http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner). You can download CCleaner through CNet's file hosting site www.Download.com or any other number of file hosting services/sites. But make no mistake, CNet does NOT own CCleaner. Piriform does.

You might also note that CCleaner does not totally "clean" your registry either. About all it does with respect to registry fixes is remove orphan entries which are really just references to files or even other entries that no longer exist. Therefore, about all CCleaner will do is remove the junk and reduce the time it takes to locate non-existent stuff. CCleaner will NOT exactly "optimize" nor really even "scrub" your registry. But removing orphan entries does help!

Now, as far as the Codec-C plugin goes, you can install it without hijacking your home page or installing unwanted tool bars and so on. However, you have to PAY ATTENTION! You need to use the "advanced" installation whenever prompted and be sure to opt out of the sneaky opt-in crud which pops up. You can do it even though the only obvious button is to "proceed" (and accept it) but that's where PAYING ATTENTION comes in! There IS a link to click on which "denies" this stuff but it's not obvious. So if you need the C-Cocec then you might want to try it again using all the advanced options.

Then again, I've noticed that the C-Codec will freeze my FF menu customizations and reset it to factory specs (which I personally don't like). For example, if I enable visibility and move my bookmarks drop-down to the left it will not stay there as long as I enable/use the C-Codec. I also like to move my home button next to my forward/back buttons but it never stays there either - at least until I remove the C-Cocec add-on. And there is no fix I've been able to find for this either.

Ok. Clear advice here. In my opinion, you should NEVER download codec-c. Reason being, many people are prompted to, by some certain sites, but in my, and many others opinions, it is NOT needed at all, at least on Veehd. All you need do is make an account first(free), and log in before choosing a video. Then the codec-c prompt will not appear at all. It is just an advert for people with no account, that appears on the video window. I have been a "member" of Veehd for quite some time, and have NEVER had spam of any kind from the site after making an account, and no need for the codec-c "plug in". Too late for people who already installed, BUT!: you can remove it. Try methods described above, but i prefer this: Boot your computer into "safe mode", by turning it on, then pressing f8 continualy as it starts. You will enter "safe mode". Then, you can use a program such as "revo" to uninstall it ( http://www.revouninstaller.com/). Then you can look for any left over bits. Use Ccleaner too if you like ( i have it, great program), to clean anything left. Good luck, happy surfing, and next time...USE GOOGLE TO SEE IF CODECS ETC ARE SAFE!!!!!!) Take care.
