After I was forced to update to 3.6.11 my bookmarks (about 610 of them) search from the sidebar very slow. It's painfully slow. Makes my blood heat up when I think of Firefox now :(

I've tried clear cache, create new profile and import bookmarks, running an add on to clear dns issue bookmarks and duplicates, removed all live bookmarks.

Current Firefox versions have updated SQLite to version 3.7.1 and there have been issues reported with that SQLite 3.7.1 version.
You may need to wait for the next update to get that problem fixed.

Because there seems to be no support or help for speed issues in Firefox, and there are so many problems. I tried quitting Firefox after many years of faithful use, but am still stuck with it and the speed issue. Here is another thread dealing with Firefox crap with no answers.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

  • Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I already tried that. I disabled all my extensions and it still hung and lagged on searching bookmarks, other things seem a little slower too.

So on my laptop that also has the same problem, but running XP, I reinstalled 3.5.xx and it works fine. All my bookmarks search in microseconds not multiple seconds. It's still trying to force me to upgrade to 3.6.xx, but letter after E that.

Why doesn't Mozilla Firefox Team have a page dedicated to speed issues with their browser. Or at least some sort of dedicated bug team for these issues that seem to make or break the program?

This isn't the first time I've had issues with windows and Firefox. Firefox older versions would be slug on a dogs back slow running in windows server 2008 desktop conversion. I assumed it was the environment so i went to windows 7 which helped until now.

PS I have Nvidia motherboard ITX from Zotac, labeled 9300 the OC version I think with DDR2.

Just double checked in Safe Mode and the Bookmark Search is still slower than pouring syrup on pancakes.

** Update **

I reinstalled 3.6.11 on my laptop after checking that 3.5.xx works fine. 3.6.11 has problems searching bookmarks.... Grrr. This is a bug.

I tried installing 3.6.12 as well and the problem was still there so I've had to go back to 3.6.9 again

Search from the address bar. This is a temporary fix, but firefox still needs to step up and fix this bogus slow down of bookmark searching. It's slow and annoying.

Solution and Fix until Version 4 is out.

The bug is related to SQLite. By downloading this file and copying the included file name sqlite3.dll to your Firefox Program folder usually located under: %programfiles%\Mozilla Firefox. Backup the old file first.

HappyBookmarking.

Thanks cliffclof for posting this - updating the sqlite3.dll works great! In fact, when I had this problem it was the last straw with Firefox's slowness that forced me to try Google Chrome (which is wonderfully fast, but useless for bookmark tagging and gave me my first virus in years "TrojanDownloader:JS/Agent.IH").

Too bad a solution wasn't implemented in Firefox's recent update.
