favorites not being added correctly

I'm currently experiencing two problems with Firefox 3.6.11.

The first problem is that within my history tab I cannot see a list of the sites I have visited. I have tried multiple methods to enable this feature via the "Options-->Privacy" section but nothing works.

The second issue I'm experiencing is that when I save links to my Bookmarks, the link to the website somehow gets changed to different sites I have visited and it also doesn't show up within the normal viewing UNLESS I physically open up "Organize Booksmarks" and go to the folder the link is saved in.

Does anybody have any suggestions or comments? I appreciate your help.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
