Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" on the Bookmarks Toolbar.

* If on Windows in Firefox 3.6 the menu bar is hidden then press and hold the Alt key down, that should make the "Menu Bar" appear
* Go to "View > Toolbars" and put a check-mark for "Menu Bar" to make that permanent. See Restore the Menu bar in Firefox)
* Make sure that you have the Navigation Toolbar and "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then see if you can find them in the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window
* Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" on the Bookmarks Toolbar
* If you see missing items in the Customize window then drag it back from the Customize window to the Navigation toolbar or Bookmarks Toolbar
* If you do not see that item then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the "View > Toolbars > Customize" window

Do you see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" in the View > Toolbars > Customize window? Do not confuse with the button that opens the Bookmarks in the sidebar. The "Bookmarks Toolbar items" should show as a folder.

If you do not find the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" in the View > Toolbars > Customize window then click the "Restore Default Set" button in that window.

If the above steps didn't help then see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf Note: Do not delete localstore.rdf in the program folder (Windows: "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile\") (Mac: "/Applications/Firefox.app/defaults/profile/")
