A few days ago I asked a question. I wanted to change some settings. I was told to do it through Chrome.css or something. I finally searched out what this means. It is becoming a little clear.

I went on the Mozillazine.org page and followed what it said. Though my path seemed a little different, I got to the page where my 2 profiles are. When I click on the profile it opens in notepad with just some text on it. Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Once I do open the profile page correctly what do I do from there to make changes. I am trying to make the search box larger.Thank you in advance

In Firefox 3.6 you can access the profile folder via Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

Can you post a link to your previous question?

If you have the search bar to the right of the location bar then you can place the mouse pointer between the two and change the size of both by dragging that resizer left or right.

Cor-el,

In previous versions the search bar would expand that way, but it will not now. I know how to do it, I have to chose customize first, then drag, it just will not work. That is why I wanted to see what this Chrome is all about. (Thanks for the short cut to my profile). However when I go to profile all I get is a notepad thing. Thanks if you can help.

Your screenshot shows the example file userChrome-example.css You need to rename that file to userChrome.css if you want Firefox to use it.

You can also try the steps outlined in this KB article: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Corrupt_localstore.rdf (caution: do not delete the localstore.rdf file in the Firefox program installation folder)

Note: Deleting the file localstore.rdf will reset the customizations of the toolbars to the defaults. You can rename localstore.rdf to localstore.rdf.sav to test if that solves it. Then you can restore the customization by copying localstore.rdf.sav to localstore.rdf if it didn't work.
