I keep getting multiple messages every time a web page is accessed or refreshed, that says "Font xxx is not installed. Do you want to allow Firefox to use it?". This happened after my last Firefox security update, and wasn't happening before that.

On which drive are those fonts located?

Try to repair the disk permissions: http://thexlab.com/faqs/repairprocess.html See also Troubleshooting permissions issues in Mac OS X

You can also try to clear the font cache.
