Thunderbird refuses colored text on new Lenovo 17" Idealpad and adds asterisks not written by the author. Example message test: bbbbbbbbbbbbsssssssss ggggggggggggg***234*5678,56 *<==============* The written numbers and the arrow were colored red. No asterisks were written in the message sent. When writing, colors appeared correctly in messages with no asterisks on screen. However, no colors appear and asterisks are added in recorded messages sent and received on the PC. The Lenovo PC works OK in general, so it must be a Thunderbird configuration/function problem on my PC as the message is correctly received with colors without asterisks on my mobile phone. Can you help me correct this PC anomaly? Many thanks

What version of Thunderbird? What operating system and version? What addons do you have installed in Thunderbird? Are you sending mail as plain text or as HTML, or both?

What mail provider? What language is Thunderbird in as well as the language of the operating system?

Hi Matt, Thanks. Just looked into your questions in detail and sending 2 screenshots Thunderbird version: 146.0.1 Compilation: 20251216225727 Operating system & version: Lenovo 17" DESKTOP-Q5MD7J7 (new machine) Processor: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1255U (1.70 GHz) Memory RAM: 40Go SSD 1 To System type: Système d’exploitation 64 bits, processeur x64 Product ID: 00330-50039-81710-AAOEM TBird Addons: None, as far as I know Sending mail as plain text or as HTML, or both: Result is the same with both: Setting HTML and plain text is checked - use system default colors is checked Internet provider (France): FREE - the connection in my area is not too strong but OK System language: French Thunderbird: French version Note: Emails being correctly received on internet email accounts, the problem would appear to be the configuration on my PC Deskstop Lenovo and/or the TB version .

I am short of glib answers on this. Usually I look at something and go this will be because of "whatever" I am not always right, but I have reasonable track record.

If I understand this correctly you have posted imaged of the same email displayed in Thunderbird and googles web interface.

Can you click on it and using the menu bar Message > forward as > attachment and send it to matt_au@gmx.com I woulds like to see the actual message source and that is the only way I know how without you uploading files to third party web sites and posting links. It is also really the simplest.

In the mean time can you restar5t Thunderbird from the help menu in Troubleshooting mode. Don't change anything, just let it start up and see if you see colour then.

The replies the forum sends contains a link at the end. Do those links show in a colour other than black (links are usually blue. I am wondering if you have set the font colours in settings and disable the use of anything else when you did so. But having a look at the message source and how it render in my Thunderbird might offer some ideas.

The following methods might be helpful:

Method 1: (On Message Pane) Click "More" on the upper right corner. > "Message Body As" > Tick "Original HTML".

Method 2: (In menu bar) Click "View". > "Message Body As" > Tick "Original HTML".

Please see the attached images.
