Hi jbirch0,

Mozilla Support is utilising Mozilla account so you don't need to create a new account if you're already using Firefox Sync.

The whole idea of Firefox Sync is that Firefox users will be able to syncrhonize browsing data across multiple devices (desktop, mobile phone, tablet, etc). I hope that clarifies your confusion.
